The Iowa REALTORS is searching for a qualified person for the role of CEO for the Des Moines Area Association of REALTORS. The Des Moines Area Association of REALTORS is managed by the DMAAR CEO subject to a management agreement with Iowa REALTORS but operates independently at the discretion of DMAAR. DMAAR's membership consists of 2,600+ members throughout a 5-county jurisdiction. DMAAR is the largest association in Iowa.


Chief Executive Officer Job Description


Overall Goal of the Position


To cultivate a passionate, engaged, and well-educated membership that understands, appreciates, and loyally supports the Association. The CEO will champion education, advocacy, engagement, and leadership development, fostering a strong professional culture that empowers REALTORS to build lifelong client relationships in a thriving real estate environment. You will work hand in hand with the brokerage community alongside all the agents. You will be responsible to your Leadership Team and Board of Directors.


This position works closely with and is accountable to the DMAAR Leadership Team and Board of Directors. While the CEO is employed by Iowa REALTORS under the existing management agreement, the role operates independently in service to DMAAR and under the direction of its leadership.


Des Moines is the fastest growing area of Iowa, with a vibrant community which the Association aims to be the center of.

Member Service & Experience

  • Creates a member-centric culture focused on outstanding service, seamless application and billing processes, and consistent engagement. Constantly improves programs and operations to ensure the Association's future.

Financial Stewardship

  • Demonstrates strong financial management skills, ensuring profitability and fiscal health.
  • Develops transparent financial reporting that builds confidence among leadership and eliminates unnecessary re-approvals of budgeted expenses.
  • Oversees dues billing and enforces membership policies regarding delinquency and termination in accordance with Association Bylaws.
  • Leads initiatives for membership promotion, onboarding, and retention and evaluates progress regularly.

Education & Professional Development

  • Delivers dynamic, forward-thinking education programs aligned with evolving market and consumer needs in coordination with the Iowa REALTORS Professional Development Director.

Association Marketing and Events

  • Plans and executes all major Association meetings and member-facing events.
  • Serves as spokesperson in coordination with Association officers.

MLS & Technology Integration

  • Collaborates with the MLS Committee and Board of Directors to enhance the value and impact of MLS services.
  • Helps shape MLS strategy through insight, feedback, and active promotion among members and brokers.
  • A vision for the future of the MLS and where the market is headed.

Governance & Board Relations

  • Attends all meetings of the Board of Directors and Executive Committee and keeps leadership fully informed of key operations, risks, and opportunities.
  • Maintains official minutes for Board, committee, and Association meetings, ensuring accurate record-keeping and timely distribution.
  • Serves as an ex officio, non-voting member of the Board of Directors and Executive Committee.

Committee & Volunteer Support

  • Provides staff support and guidance to committee chairs to ensure productive meetings and outcomes aligned with strategic objectives.
  • Ensures committee recommendations are submitted to the Board for timely review and action.

Compliance & Records Management

  • Ensures timely compliance with NAR's Core Standards requirements.
  • Oversees the protection, security, and appropriate retention of all Association files, legal records, and member databases.
