  • This position will work onsite at UND Grand Forks, ND campus
Purpose of Position

The primary purpose of the Education Specialist is to support the department and its faculty in order to maintain delivery of quality educational experiences to many students in different program paths. The Education Specialist position is vital for assisting with and/or managing admissions, assessment, and advising processes throughout the department, all of which are imperative for maintaining program accreditations and positive outcomes.

Duties & Responsibilities

Serve as a member of the Department of Medical Laboratory Science (MLS) Clinical Education Team

  • Assist with collection, management, and monitoring of required clinical affiliation documentation
  • Manage pre-clinical student documentation related to health records, background checks, and required trainings
  • Assist in the delivery of testing, feedback, and review tools for students completing clinical rotation coursework
  • Develop and maintain documents related to clinical experiences and progress tracking.  

Provide instructional and curricular support through preparation, delivery, and/or grading of undergraduate coursework

  • Assist Department of MLS faculty and staff with preparation, setup, execution, and grading of student labs
  • Participate in the laboratory instruction of undergraduate MLS students
  • Organize and maintain needed course section information for various program routes

Manage and deliver undergraduate student advising

  • Advise undergraduate MLS students
  • Perform transcript reviews for current, potential, and incoming transfer students
  • Serve as MLS advisor for UND School of Medicine & Health Sciences (SMHS) at UND Orientation Days and other advising events
  • Be a liaison between the Department of MLS and SMHS and/or UND advising personnel
  • Assist students (prospective and/or current) with registration and admission processes  

Assist in the coordination of admissions, assessment, and accreditation processes for Department of MLS program routes

  • Manage collection, review, preparation, and assessment of admissions data for various departmental program routes
  • Assist with development and distribution of program applications
  • Assist with various duties associated NAACLS accreditation
  • Participate in the Department of MLS Assessment & Accreditation Committee
  • Assist in collection and management of departmental assessment data
  • Develop and/or maintain essential records and documents related to student recruitment and retention, tracking of departmental goals, and other initiatives

Participate in other education-related responsibilities 

  • Assist with promotional documents, marketing ideas, and recruitment strategies/activities both on and off campus
  • Manage the Department of MLS website and program pages
  • Serve as a member of various Department of MLS committees  
Required Competencies
  • Strong communication and organizational skills
  • Ability to handle biohazardous samples/specimens and operate medical laboratory equipment
  • Ability to work efficiently as an individual or part of a collaborative group, while maintaining integrity and professionalism
  • Self-direction, flexibility, and willingness to adapt and accept feedback/direction
Minimum Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree in Medical Laboratory Science (MLS; or CLS/MT); or Bachelor's degree plus completion of a NAACLS accredited MLS/CLS/MT program
  • Documented ASCP MLS (or CLS/MT) certification
  • License to practice in North Dakota at the MLS level (or meet license eligibility requirements and secure within 6 months of hire)
  • Successful completion of criminal history background check

Preferred Qualifications
  • Teaching or student/employee training experience
  • Experience with utilization of educational technology and software (ex. Blackboard)
  • 2 years of experience as an MLS (or CLS/MT)
