Medical Laboratory Scientist (MLS)
Harney District Hospital is seeking a Medical Laboratory Scientist (MLS) to join our laboratory team in beautiful Burns, Oregon. This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced laboratory professional who enjoys variety, values autonomy, and wants to make a meaningful impact in a rural healthcare setting.
As an MLS at Harney District Hospital, you will serve as a generalist across multiple areas of laboratory medicine, performing a variety of testing that directly supports patient diagnosis and treatment. You will have the opportunity to work with automated instrumentation and manual methods, perform high-complexity testing, assist with blood bank services, troubleshoot analyzers, perform quality control, and contribute to the overall operation of our laboratory.

What You'll Bring
We are looking for an MLS who is:
  • Confident and capable of working independently
  • Experienced as a laboratory generalist
  • Comfortable performing high-complexity testing
  • Knowledgeable in blood bank procedures
  • Skilled in laboratory instrumentation and basic analyzer troubleshooting
  • Detail-oriented with a strong commitment to accuracy and patient safety
  • Comfortable performing phlebotomy when needed
  • Adaptable and willing to learn new procedures, equipment, and testing methods
  • A strong communicator who works well as part of a team
  • Able to seek out technical resources and assistance when needed
Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Medical Technology, Medical Laboratory Science, or a related field
  • Current Medical Laboratory Scientist/Medical Technologist certification through ASCP or AMT, or qualification under applicable CLIA certification requirements
  • Candidates who have recently graduated from an approved medical technology program and have an application for ASCP or AMT certification in process may be considered, provided certification is obtained within the required timeframe
  • Documentation of highest academic achievement, including diploma or official transcript, must be provided at the time of hire as required by CLIA.
