Job Description

Provides patient treatment under the supervision of a licensed Physical Therapist. Documents patient treatment and progress toward goals in the patient's electronic health record. Implements established treatment programs and provides patient and family education.

Job Duties

  • Administers physical therapy treatments and various modalities under the direction of a Physical Therapist.

  • Instructs, motivates and assists patients and their families in appropriate continued physical therapy programs as well as care of and use of adaptive equipment.

  • Observes and reports patients' responses to treatment and progress and reports orally and/or in writing to the Physical Therapist.

  • Collaborates with Physical Therapist and other health team members to exchange and discuss patient information for planning, modifying and coordinating treatment programs.

  • Assists in assessment of patient's skills and capabilities to determine extent of abilities and limitations.

  • Supervises and oversees department rehab aides for patient care related areas.

  • Precepts in the direction and evaluation of clinical experience / internships of students from participating colleges and universities.

  • Stays abreast of current developments and new technology in physical therapy.

  • Provides formal orientation to new Physical Therapy Assistants, aides and volunteers.

  • Maintains safety of the work environment including equipment and notifies appropriate personnel if necessary.

  • Demonstrates behaviors consistent with Mission and Core Values. Adheres to standards and policies, laws and regulations. Demonstrates the ABC's of Mercy Health Culture. Holds self and others accountable.

Employment Qualifications

Required Minimum Education: 2 Year/Associates Degree

Licensure/Certification Required: Licensed in State of Ohio PT/OT/AT Board

Licensure/Certification Preferred: CPR Certification

Minimum Years and Type of Experience: O; clinical practicums

Other Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required: Interpersonal skills necessary to effectively interact with co-workers, physicians, patients and families. Analytical abilities to assess patient conditions, capabilities and progress. Complies with all applicable laws and regulations and practices.
