Job Purpose

The Visitor Experience Representative plays a key role in elevating the visitor experience at Bishop Museum. This role involves interacting with guests and supporting a variety of operational and programming functions to ensure a positive and unforgettable visit. As the first point of contact for visitors, the Visitor Experience Representative will assist with ticketing, address inquiries, offer information, and ensure a smooth and enjoyable guest experience for all museum visitors from beginning to end.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Serve as the first point of contact for visitors both in-person and through various communication channels, greeting them warmly and providing information about exhibits, programs, operating hours, admission prices, and amenities.

  • Support daily operations by executing opening and closing procedures, monitoring entrance and exit flow, and managing guest queues to ensure a smooth and efficient visitor experience.

  • Assist with general and special admissions, addressing any issues or concerns in a friendly and professional manner.

  • Respond to guest inquiries, feedback, and complaints, and collaborate with relevant departments to address any concerns or requests.

  • Ensure compliance with all safety procedures, policies, and guidelines during guest interactions.

  • Works with the Reservationist to confirm, execute, and follow up on reservations for Bishop Museum public programs and events. Assists with greeting groups, at the direction of the Reservationist.

  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma required; Bachelor's degree in Business Administration, Travel Industry Management or similar degree preferred.

  • Minimum 2 years of experience in customer service, hospitality, or a similar field is often required.

  • Minimum 1 year of experience with a point-of-sale (POS) system, preferably Altru or a similar system, for ticketing and admissions.

  • Familiarity with Hawaiian or Pacific culture and history preferred.

  • CPR, First Aid, AED certification a plus.

Other Requirements

  • Incumbent must reside on the island of O'ahu as this position is required to be on site.

  • Flexibility in working hours, as some evening and weekend work is required. Sunday availability from 8:30am 5:00pm is required.

  • Must have valid Hawaii Drivers License.

  • Proficiency in one or more additional languages can be a plus, especially in areas with diverse visitor populations.

Working Conditions

Evening and weekend work are required. Working outdoors in the elements and at times in a bright/dark environment is frequent. Employees will be working in busy, sometimes noisy spaces and on their feet for long periods of time. Ability to stand or move around for long periods, especially in large visitor areas or during busy times.

Physical Requirements

Ability to work in low lit areas and to stand and walk for an extended period of time.
