Description

American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a Float Pool Med/Surg Tele position at a Level 2 Trauma teaching hospital in Rome, GA, requiring at least 2 years of Med/Surg Tele experience and ACLS certification.

Details
  • Float Pool position covering all Med/Surg and Critical Care areas, including ED boarders and potentially ICU or ER
  • Level 2 Trauma designated teaching hospital with a residency program, Chest Pain Center, and Stroke Center
  • Med/Surg patient populations include oncology, orthopedic, general surgery/trauma, pulmonology, and vascular/bariatric surgery cases
  • Critical care patient populations include neurology stepdown, cardiac stepdown, observation/decision unit, and combined ICU (medical, surgical, neuro, cardiac)
  • Common diagnoses include stroke, chest pain/cardiac events, trauma, respiratory illness, sepsis, oncology, orthopedic injuries, and surgical cases
  • EMR: Epic (experience preferred)
  • Equipment used includes Glucommander, cardiac monitors, Precision BBG monitors, Alaris pumps, specialty beds, BiPAP, ventilators, and Virtual Patient Observer (VPO) technology
  • 12-hour night shifts, 7P–7A, 36 hours per week
  • Every other weekend rotation required
  • On-call may be requested during low census, though this is rare
  • 70% of assigned holidays required
  • Floating required across all Med/Surg and Critical Care units, including ED boarders; ICU and ER float possible
Requirements
  • Active RN license — GA state or Compact license required
  • Current certifications required: BLS, ACLS, NIHSS, and CPI (CPI may be provided by the facility if not already held)
  • Minimum 2 years of experience in Med/Surg Tele specialty required, with most recent experience within the last year
  • Skills required: basic arrhythmia interpretation, Foley catheter irrigation, PCA, epidural management, CPM, Buck's traction, and drain & chest tube management
  • Knowledge of cardiac drips and experience with neuro, cardiac, pulmonary, ortho, trauma, and surgical patients required
  • 1 professional reference dated within the past year, from a Supervisor, Manager, Director, or Charge RN required for consideration
  • Last 4 digits of SSN and full date of birth required for consideration

  • Support staff includes CNAs/nurse techs, respiratory therapists, phlebotomists, educators, safety sitters, Virtual Patient Observers (VPO), a Virtual RN (currently on 4 West), and security
  • Orientation consists of one week of New Employee Orientation (NEO), Monday–Friday 8:00AM–4:30PM, followed by 2–3 days of departmental orientation on the floor
  • Department culture emphasizes teamwork, speaking up for help, responding promptly to call lights and telemetry alerts
  • Scrubs: Navy required
  • Parking is free on-site
  • First-time travelers will be considered, though not preferred
  • Local candidates are accepted — no radius rule applies, same rate for local travelers in GA
  • Candidates who have worked a permanent position at an AHSE facility must have been separated for at least 1 year before being eligible
