Responsibilities
Summary
This position provides program participants with the tools and knowledge to prepare for reentry into the community through the use of CBIP, Victim Impact, Stopping Abuse for Everyone (SAFE), and Relapse Prevention Program modules. This individual must learn, use, and model principles of the "What Works" system through evidence-based practices in all interactions with participants, GEO staff members, and agency personnel.
Primary Duties and Responsibilities
  • Facilitates delivery of cognitive behavioral curriculum in individual and group settings focusing on the areas of motivation for change, social adjustment, personal management, social skills development, cognitive restructuring, and development of problem-solving skills.
  • Conducts periodic reviews of curriculum and resources available to enhance participants' participation in life skills programming and activities.
  • Maintains class rosters, attendance records, and provides completion certificates for evidence-based programs and other life skills curriculum as required.
  • Supports the assessment of participant needs and makes referrals to management.
  • Provides individual and group counseling in areas including self-esteem, problem solving, relationships, and other related issues.
  • Communicates with program participants regarding reentry planning, identifying community resources.
  • Aids participants in planning and developing post-release plans and encourages them to assume responsibility for post-release behaviors and activities.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Qualifications
Minimum Requirements
  • Bachelor's Degree in Social Sciences or related field required.
  • Must have previous experience as a facilitator/educator/group moderator.
  • Preference given to experience within a correctional setting.
  • Valid state driver's license required.
  • Ability to interact in a professional manner in both individual and group counseling settings.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills as well as oral and written communication skills.
  • Extensive organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Familiar with the correctional system and current correctional policies.
  • Possess a thorough understanding of the Principles of Effective Intervention that empirical evidence has proven to successfully reduce recidivism.
  • Ability to work with a team of professionals and have the ability to implement team strategy approaches to work assignments
  • Ability to work with computers and the necessary software typically used by the department.
