DESCRIPTION OF THE DISTRICT:Â
The Brandon School District is a mid-size school district nestled in Northwest Oakland County. The district has approximately 1,000 students in junior kindergarten-5th grade between the two elementary schools, approximately 600 at the middle school level and approximately 850 at the high school. This small, tight knit community has a strong connection to its schools and is passionate about the education of its youth. Brandon High School sends 85-90% of its graduates to post-secondary school each year, it was ranked in the 82nd percentile of all schools in the State on the top-to-bottom rankings and it was awarded as a Silver Medal Winner by the US News. Our elementary schools are both one-to-one technology are each near the 83rd percentile in State rankings.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:Â
- Valid Michigan Teaching Certificate with the proper Secondary Math endorsement
- Experience teaching secondary students preferred
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
- Ability to communicate and work cooperatively with students, parents and district staff
- Ability to foster a supportive classroom environment
- Proficiency in middle school mathematical concepts and ability to teach abstract reasoning
- Experience with technology integration (e.g., virtual math tools)
- Ability to work in a collaborative, team-oriented environment
- Ability to manage all aspects of the position which includes interacting with students during the day, and time for planning and grading
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:Â
Teaches district approved curriculum
Assist students transition from foundational arithmetic to more abstract algebraic and geometric concepts
Deliver engaging math lessons-covering topics such as ratios, proportional relationships, basic geometry, and expressions/equations-using hands-on, inquiry-based, or technology-enhanced approaches
Develops lesson plans and instructional material and provides individualized and small group instruction to adapt the curriculum to the needs of each student
Plan, teach, and assess student learning while collaborating with colleagues, parents, and administrators to meet academic goals
Adapt teaching methods to meet the individual needs, learning styles, and skill levels of diverse students, including providing extra support or enrichment
Develop lesson plans and instructional materials; provide individualized and small group instruction to adapt the curriculum to the needs of each student
Create and grade assignments, quizzes, and tests to monitor evaluate students' academic and social growth and use this data to adjust instruction; keep appropriate records and prepares progress reports
Communicate regularly with parents outside normal classroom day by means of newsletters, notes, phone calls, conferences, etc.
Establish and maintain standards of student behavior to achieve an effective learning atmosphere
Identify student needs and makes appropriate referrals and develops strategies for individual education plans
Create a safe, orderly, and productive learning environment that promotes student engagement, often utilizing positive behavior management systems
