Job Summary/Description:
14 News, the Tri-State's News and Weather Leader in Evansville, IN, has a rare opening on our Meteorology team. The person in this position is expected to bring a weather delivery that includes accurate forecasting, high energy, and a real sense of urgency in their weathercasts.
This position covers weekend weather shifts in addition to filling in on other shifts and shifts with severe weather coverage as needed. This position also serves as a reporter with other special projects and duties as assigned. This position works closely with the weather team to create content for the weather blog and social media. The applicant should be knowledgeable in IBM Max platforms.
Duties/Responsibilities include (but are not limited to):
- Anchor weekend shows (Sat 6-10, Sun 5-10)
- Update 14news.com at least twice each day
- App updates and social media posts
- Create weather storytelling content and graphics for all platforms
- Assist other Meteorologists during severe coverage
- Fill in for weekday Meteorologists
- Able to work with the IBM Max platform
- Storm Tracking with Max Storm
- Provide daily streaming weather updates as assigned
- Create revenue-generating content and ideas
- Make school and community appearances on behalf of the station
Qualifications/Requirements:
- Bachelor's degree in Journalism or related field
- 1-2 years reporting experience/live reporting, preferred
- Strong verbal and written communication skills, including excellent news writing and visual storytelling ability
- Familiarity with digital video cameras, non-linear editing, and Social Media platforms
- Ability to lift 35-40lbs of gear
- Valid Driver's License
