Department: Intercollegiate Athletics
Campus Location: Recreation & Wellness Center - Marion, IN
Summary of Position: The Athletic Communications Graduate Assistant primarily facilitates the execution of home sporting events, including regular season contests and Crossroads League/NAIA Championship events. The Graduate Assistant will be involved in the daily functions of a Top 5 NAIA athletic department and will have the opportunity to learn multiple aspects of athletic communications.
This position requires a willingness to work a demanding fluid schedule, including nights and weekends.
Duties and Responsibilities
  • Assist in coverage of all IWU Athletic teams. Specific sport assignment of 6 teams
  • Assist in coordination and implementation of the department's social media outreach plan
  • Manage and post athletic event components such as pregame, in-game, and post-game
  • Create monthly student/coaches features to highlight the mission of IWU Athletics
  • Assist in oversight and development of gameday student staff that help with social media, scorer's table, stats, announcing, broadcasting, photography, videography
  • Handle record book management and continually work to catalog all aspects of Athletics Communications, utilizing digital archiving procedures that include website and cloud technology
  • Manage storage/library of annual files, photographs, miscellaneous awards, and videography
  • Write and edit various communication materials, weekly previews, game recaps, game notes and sport-specific content for the department's website
  • Develop and manage the IWU Athletics website while helping in the maintaining accurate, up-to-date, and timely content and news dissemination (including all aspects of the website such as rosters, schedules, biographies, results, and assisting in website management)
  • Other projects and/or duties as assigned by the supervisor or athletics administrative team

Qualifications: According to Indiana Wesleyan University employment policy all employees must possess a strong Christian commitment and adhere to the standards outlined in the IWU Community Lifestyle Statement.
Education
  • Bachelor's degree and acceptance into the master's program is required for the Graduate Assistant role

Experience
  • Previous experience as a writer, journalist, yearbook editor, or similar
  • Video filming and editing experience
  • Adobe Creative Suite software experience
  • Presto Stats software experience
  • Graphic design or video editing skills is a plus
  • Broadcasting and Play-by-Play experience is a plus
