Job description

The Indiana University (IU) Center for Rural Engagement improves the lives of Hoosiers through collaborative initiatives that discover and deploy scalable and flexible solutions to common challenges facing rural communities. Working in full-spectrum community innovation through research, community-engaged teaching, and student service, the center builds vision, harnesses assets, and cultivates sustainable leadership structures within the communities with which it engages to ensure long-term success.
The multimedia storytelling graduate fellow will support planning, coordination, and execution of a year long celebration marking the 10¿year anniversaries of Sustaining Hoosier Communities and the Center for Rural Engagement. The role blends project management, event coordination, storytelling, and content production. The internship will begin in Fall 2026 to allow for pre-planning, asset development, and vendor coordination, and will conclude at the end of Spring 2028.
Job Summary
Department Specific Responsibilities
  • Photo exhibition
    • Assists with curation of photos and archival materials.
    • Coordinates printing, framing, and installation.
    • Drafts exhibit text panels and captions.
    • Supports opening-event planning and promotion.
  • Video production
    • Assists with storyboarding and script development.
    • Coordinates interviews, filming schedules, and permissions.
    • Manages asset collection (photos, footage, quotes).
    • Liaises with videographers or media services.
  • Oral history documentation (10 podcast episodes)
    • Identifies and recruits participants.
    • Prepares interview guides.
    • Conducts and record interviews.
    • Edits recordings and transcripts.
  • Project StoryMap series
    • Researches projects and conduct interviews with faculty, students, and partners.
    • Produces StoryMap spotlights.
Qualifications
EDUCATION
Required
  • Currently enrolled as a graduate student at Indiana University.
LICENSES AND CERTIFICATES
Required
  • Valid driver's license with the ability to be insured by Indiana University.
SKILLS
Required
  • Familiarity with audio and video production
  • Experience with layout design software such as Adobe InDesign, Illustrator, Photoshop, or Canva
  • Strong writing and editing abilities
  • Ability to craft compelling narratives from interviews and research
  • Experience preparing content for web, social media, or newsletters
  • Attention to detail and ability to handle multiple projects simultaneously
  • Self-motivated with the ability to work independently
  • Seeks to acquire knowledge in the area of specialty
Working Conditions / Demands
This role requires the ability to effectively communicate and to operate a computer and other standard office productivity equipment. The position involves sedentary work as well as periods of time moving around an office environment, campus, and community. The person in this role must be able to perform the essential functions with or without accommodation.
May include some in-state travel.

Advertised Salary
$16.00- $20.00 per hour based on experience
Work Hours
