Position Summary

To support their growth, we are seeking an experienced and highly engaged Vice President to lead their Construction division through an exciting period of transformation and growth. This is a hands-on executive role - ideal for a leader who thrives in building capability from the ground up. The Vice President, Construction will be responsible for setting direction, driving operational excellence, and directly supporting execution where organizational depth is still maturing. The role oversees a multi-location footprint primarily based in California, including QA and Engineering leadership, and reports directly to the division President.

As the company continues its strategic evolution, including organizational restructuring and enterprise digitization, the Vice President will play a critical role in aligning the Construction division with long-term business priorities and building a scalable, performance-driven operating model.

Key Responsibilities

Financial Management: The Vice President will drive the financial performance of the Construction division by supporting the planning process and ensuring profitable results across all areas of responsibility. Partnering with operational leaders and Corporate Finance, they will foster accountability, strengthen financial controls, and maintain focus on capital expenditure, investment commitments, and ROI discipline. They will also oversee monthly project reviews, review and approve material contracts and bids, and present strategic go/no go recommendations to executive leadership.

Strategic Planning: Aligning with the company's Strategy Deployment Process the Vice President will develop and implement strategic priorities that drive transformation and growth. Collaborating with senior leaders and cross-functional teams, the VP will also ensure the successful execution of key initiatives, fostering strategic focus and organizational impact.

Operational Leadership: The Vice President will provide direction and oversight across the Construction division to ensure safe, efficient, and high-quality project execution. Leading from the front, they will be hands-on within the team, step into operational gaps, mentor developing talent, clarify roles, and champion consistent processes from bidding through closeout. The VP will drive operational improvements, ensure compliance, partner with QA and Engineering for service excellence, and collaborate with senior leadership to advance business process transformation, fostering efficiency, innovation, and long-term capability across the enterprise.

Business Development: Cultivating senior customer relationships, the VP will guide strategic pursuits and oversee large bids through CRM and executive engagement. They will align their efforts with strategic priorities and market expansion goals, driving new contract acquisition to strengthen market presence and achieve margin targets.

Safety, Quality and Regulatory Compliance: The Vice President will partner with corporate teams to ensure compliance with health, safety, and environmental regulations, while maintaining and enhancing safety programs, training, and risk management protocols. They will uphold quality standards across all areas, promoting a culture of safety, accountability, and operational excellence throughout the division.

Talent Development: As an experienced people leader, the Vice President will set clear goals, provide regular feedback, and mentor team members in alignment with the divisions workforce planning and succession strategies. They will promote a high-performance culture, centered on accountability, collaboration, and continuous learning to ensure engagement and long-term organizational strength.

Stakeholder Management: The Vice President will maintain alignment with the President through timely updates while collaborating as an active member of the Senior Leadership Team, engaging internal stakeholders to support companywide initiatives. They will cultivate strong relationships with clients, partners, and industry representatives to enhance the company's reputation and influence.

Performance Monitoring and Digital Transformation: By establishing KPIs with corporate functions and championing real-time, data-driven systems, the Vice President will ensure the Construction division actively contributes to and benefits from digital transformation across the enterprise. They will foster a culture of accountability and continuous improvement through effective data utilization, driving transformation and measurable operational impact.

Qualifications & Education

  • Bachelors degree in Engineering or a related field is required with Project Management experience.
  • Advanced degree (MBA, MS in Engineering or Construction Management) is strongly preferred.
  • Minimum 20 years of progressive experience in construction (Industrial, Heavy Civil, Petrochemical, Renewable Energy, Wind Farms, Aerospace, Structural Steel Erection, Theme Parks, Seismic Retrofits, Specialized Rigging and Equipment Hauling), with at least 5 years in a senior leadership or executive role.
  • Proven ability to operate in a hands-on capacity in fast-paced environments with lean management structures.
  • Strong financial acumen and experience managing P&L responsibility across multiple locations or business units.
  • Demonstrated success in building, mentoring, and scaling leadership teams.
  • Experience navigating organizational transformation, including structural change and digital modernization initiatives.
  • Deep knowledge of construction operations, safety regulations, and industry standards.
  • Strong contractual awareness, including experience with commercial terms, contract negotiation, and risk management in project delivery.
  • Excellent communication, negotiation, and stakeholder management skills, with a proven ability to engage at all levels - from field teams to Senior Leaders.
