VP Revenue

Mongoose

Los Angeles, CA • Remote

Full-time

Medical, Dental, Vision, Retirement, PTO

Job description

Mongoose is the leading AI Engagement Platform in higher education. Colleges and universities use us to increase enrollment, retention, and fundraising - without adding staff.

We have the product and the customers. What we don't have yet is a revenue engine to match. That's this role. As VP of Revenue, you own it end to end - new business, client success, account management, and, most importantly, the system that ties them together. Your job is to make it simple and run it with discipline.

What You'll Do
  • Own all of revenue. The whole revenue org reports to you - one team, one leader. New business, client success, and account management are the front line, with enablement and operations behind them - the training and tools that set them up to win. It all serves one goal: grow ARR - by winning new business and helping our customers succeed. So you're measured on two things: new ARR and gross retention.
  • Build a simple, repeatable selling system. One clear path from first call to close to renewal - the stages, standards, and playbooks the whole team runs the same way. Make it so clear that reps know what good looks like and spend their time selling, not guessing. Done right, it shows up in forecasts you can trust, faster deals, and better conversion at every step.
  • Grow the people who sell it. Our reps are early in their careers and hungry, so growing them isn't a side project - it's the job. You build the system that does it: ramp, enablement, and a steady coaching cadence. And you're in it, not above it - in the deals and the reviews, helping close and coaching the fundamentals in the moment, not from a slide at quarter's end. The result is reps who sell with real confidence and conviction: they know how to win, and they believe they will.
  • Move us up-market. Our next stage of growth is in bigger deals. You know where the real opportunity lives in higher ed, and you focus the team there - raising the ACV we pursue, building around the highest-value accounts, and growing the ones with real upside. It takes sharp market judgment, a head for the numbers, and the discipline to say no to deals that aren't worth the team's time.
  • Run revenue like an AI company. Most revenue orgs still operate the way they did decades ago - we won't. We sell AI for a living, and the whole company is getting far more efficient, accurate, and effective by letting AI do the manual work. That takes more than watching for the next AI tool - it takes imagination: you picture how technology could reinvent the work, then we build it.
What You'll Bring
  • You've run a full revenue org - new business and retention both - and carried a number yourself, not just managed people who carried theirs.
  • When a number gets missed, you go straight to the funnel math - pipeline, conversion, time-in-stage - not the story about why.
  • You've built a selling system that works - whether you stood it up from scratch or overhauled a broken one inside an established org.
  • You're a real coach. You've taken early-career reps and turned them into closers - hands-on, not from a dashboard.
  • You think in unit economics and read a market fast. You've moved a team toward bigger, better deals, and had the discipline to walk from the rest.
  • You're already using AI to reinvent how you work, and you don't wait for permission to push it further.
  • Higher ed or EdTech experience is a strong plus, not a must. The market has real nuance - if you haven't lived in it, show us how you'll close the gap fast.
How We Work
Revenue doesn't run in isolation. You're a key member of our senior leadership team - leading revenue alongside the CEO, partnering with Product and Marketing on go-to-market, and with Finance and People to run the business. Tight feedback loops, honest calls, shared decisions. We hold each other accountable to the plan - and to the whole outcome, not just our own lane.
More About Mongoose

1,000+ higher ed institutions already trust Mongoose - built to give their teams exponentially more capacity across the systems they already run.

AI handles the routine, so people can focus on the work that actually moves students forward - more applications completed, more students retained, more donors reached. Same team. Much bigger impact.

What We Offer

  • 401K with company match: 100% of the 1st 3% and 50% of the next 2%
  • Flexible PTO
  • Competitive Leave Policies
  • 13 paid holidays, including a week off between Christmas and New Year's
