Summary

The Vice President of Engineering is a strategic executive leader responsible for leading engineering execution across AvL Technologies' satellite communications product portfolio. This position provides leadership for new product development, systems engineering, electrical engineering, mechanical engineering, RF engineering, software and embedded systems.

The Vice President of Engineering is accountable for engineering execution, technical risk management and product development delivery. The candidate translates approved technology and R&D priorities into engineering plans, resource needs, schedules, budgets, and deliverables.

The candidate is also responsible for building a high-performance engineering organization, through organizational leadership, engineering process discipline, culture of technical excellence, efficiency, accountability, and continuous improvement.ย 

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

  • Execute engineering plans aligned with the approved product and technology roadmap.
  • Provide executive leadership and direction for all engineering disciplines, including systems, RF, electrical, mechanical, software, manufacturing, test, and quality engineering.
  • Lead the development, introduction, and lifecycle management of SATCOM antenna systems, terminals, tracking systems, and related communications products and systems.
  • Establish engineering priorities, resource allocation plans, budgets, and performance metrics.
  • Drive engineering innovation and continuous improvement initiatives that enhance product performance, manufacturability, reliability, and cost competitiveness.
  • Ensure products meet customer requirements, regulatory standards, and applicable industry certifications.
  • Oversee all phases of product development from concept through production release and sustainment.
  • Collaborate closely with Operations, Product Management, Manufacturing, Quality, Sales, Purchasing, and Customer Service to achieve business objectives.
  • Support business development initiatives with technical implementation and level of effort estimates.
  • Build, mentor, and develop high-performing engineering teams and leadership.
  • Establish and maintain engineering processes, design standards, and best practices.
  • Ensure effective risk management and resolution of technical, operational, and program challenges.
  • Lead engineering budget development and management, including capital expenditures and organizational planning.
  • Serve as a member of the executive leadership team, contributing to overall company strategy and growth initiatives.

Education & Experience

Required:

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, Systems Engineering, or a related technical discipline.
  • Minimum of fifteen (15) years of progressive engineering leadership experience.
  • Minimum of eight (8) years leading multidisciplinary engineering organizations.
  • Demonstrated experience in SATCOM, communications systems, aerospace, defense electronics, telecommunications, or related technology manufacturing industries.
  • Proven success leading products from concept through production and customer deployment.
  • Experience managing engineering budgets, personnel, and strategic initiatives.
  • Strong understanding of product lifecycle management and systems engineering processes.

Preferred:

  • Master's degree or Ph.D. in Engineering or related technical field.
  • Experience leading engineering organizations within satellite communications or aerospace technology companies.
  • Experience supporting government, defense, or international programs.
  • Lean Six Sigma, or other relevant certifications.

Physical Demands

  • Primarily performed in an office environment.
  • Ability to sit, stand, walk, and use computer equipment for extended periods.
  • Ability to communicate effectively in person, via telephone, and through virtual meetings.
  • Occasional visits to manufacturing, integration, test, and customer locations.
  • Ability to lift up to 25 pounds occasionally.
