Job description

ABOUT THE POSITION:

At Vermont Gas Systems (VGS), we deliver safe and reliable natural gas and thermal energy services to over 55,000 Vermonters across Chittenden, Franklin, and Addison counties. The HVAC Equipment Design & Sales Advisor plays a key role in the company by meeting the evolving energy needs of our customers, supporting VGSโ€™s growth and energy transition objectives by promoting high-efficiency heating and cooling equipment. The individual in this role will be responsible for advising current customers on their whole home energy needs, which includes evaluating customer needs, designing heating and cooling system solutions, and influencing residential equipment sales. This role is deeply customer service oriented and combines technical HVAC knowledge with strong sales skills to deliver efficient, cost-effective, reliable and safe whole home energy systems. This position is primarily field based, with a majority of time spent interacting with customers and performing technical design and sales activities.

WHAT YOUโ€™LL DO:

  • Generate and develop residential high-efficiency heating and cooling equipment sales opportunities with existing or potential residential customers.
  • Conduct in-home consultations to assess heating and cooling needs, existing equipment, and system performance.
  • Design and properly size HVAC systems (furnaces, boilers, water heaters, heat pumps, and hybrid systems).
  • Prepare and present detailed proposals, quotes, and financing or lease options.
  • Close sales and execute customer agreements for equipment installation, replacement, or upgrades.
  • Follow up on open customer proposals, stalled leads, and drive conversion to meet sales goals.
  • Ensure all system recommendations meet code compliance and VGS safety standards.
  • Coordinate with installation teams and contractors to ensure accurate scope and smooth project handoff.
  • Provide high quality customer service and develop creative, effective solutions to meet customersโ€™ needs. Follow up in a timely manner to customer questions.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with HVAC contractors, builders, and internal teams.
  • Promote energy efficiency programs, rebates, and incentives to maximize customer value.
  • Stay current on HVAC technologies, electrification trends, and competitor offerings.
  • Track all sales activity, pipeline, and customer interactions in software system Salesforce.
  • Represent VGS at community events, trade shows, and industry functions.

SKILLS & EXPERIENCE:

Minimum Qualifications

  • Technical familiarity with residential heating and cooling equipment.
  • Experience working in customer-facing roles with proven examples of customer relationship management success.
  • Demonstrated ability to perform in a sales environment with examples of meeting or exceeding targets.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office products.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • HVAC or energy-related industry experience.
  • Experience in HVAC sales, in-home sales, or technical sales.
  • Strong knowledge of residential HVAC systems, equipment sizing, and installation practices.
  • Familiarity with Customer Relationship Management (CRM) tools including Salesforce.

This sales role offers a competitive base salary with commission eligibility.
