Job description

Company:
Qualcomm Incorporated
Job Area:
Information Technology Group, Information Technology Group > IT Networking
General Summary:
We are seeking a Staff-level DDI Engineer to serve as a technical leader and architectural authority for DNS, DHCP, and IP Address Management (DDI) services across a large, global enterprise. This role owns the technical vision, architecture, and evolution of enterprise DDI services, with a strong emphasis on vendor-agnostic DDI expertise, automation-first design, and scalable, resilient platforms.
The ideal candidate brings deep experience designing and operating DDI services at scale and is capable of guiding platform strategy, driving automation, and influencing architecture across the enterprise. Experience with BlueCat DDI is a strong plus, but not required.
**This position is not eligible for Qualcomm immigration sponsorship.**
**This role is based in San Diego (in office, 5 days a week) and requires close collaboration with globally distributed teams.**
Scope & Impact (Staff-Level Expectations)
  • Enterprise Scope:
Owns and influences DDI services used enterprise-wide across multiple regions, data centers, and cloud environments, supporting mission-critical business and engineering platforms.
  • Strategic Impact:
Defines and shapes the long-term technical direction and roadmap for DDI services, with decisions that have multi-year impact on availability, scalability, security, and operational efficiency.
  • Cross-Organizational Influence:
Regularly influences architecture and technical decisions outside the immediate DDI domain, partnering with network, security, cloud, and platform engineering teams.
  • Risk & Reliability Ownership:
Makes decisions that materially affect service reliability and operational risk; errors may have broad business impact, requiring strong engineering judgment and preventative design.
  • Autonomy & Decision-Making:
Operates with minimal supervision, making independent technical decisions that establish standards and patterns adopted across teams.
  • Force Multiplier:
Amplifies organizational effectiveness through architecture, automation, standards, and mentorship rather than direct execution alone.

Key Responsibilities
Enterprise DDI Architecture & Strategy
  • Act as the technical authority for enterprise DDI services, defining architecture, standards, and long-term technical direction
  • Own and evolve the global DDI reference architecture, ensuring scalability, resiliency, security, and operational excellence
  • Evaluate DDI platforms and capabilities, guiding roadmap decisions, platform evolution, and vendor strategy
  • Lead architectural reviews and provide authoritative guidance on DDI-related designs across on-prem, hybrid, and cloud environments

Leadership & Execution
  • Design and implement highly available, enterprise-scale DDI solutions supporting critical global workloads
  • Serve as the escalation point for the most complex DDI issues, leading deep technical investigations and root-cause analysis
  • Establish and enforce best practices, configuration standards, and operational patterns
  • Drive measurable improvements in reliability, performance, and service maturity across the DDI ecosystem

Automation & Platform Enablement
  • Define and champion an automation-first approach to DDI using APIs, infrastructure-as-code, and modern tooling
  • Architect and oversee automation frameworks for provisioning, lifecycle management, and self-service capabilities
  • Integrate DDI services into CI/CD pipelines and broader platform automation initiatives
  • Systematically reduce manual effort and operational risk through automation and guardrails

Cross-Functional Influence & Collaboration
  • Partner with network, security, cloud, and application architecture teams to embed DDI services into enterprise platforms
  • Translate business and platform requirements into scalable, supportable DDI designs
  • Influence technical decisions through expertise, data-driven recommendations, and trusted leadership
  • Work effectively within a globally distributed organization, aligning teams across regions and time zones

Mentorship & Technical Stewardship
  • Mentor senior and mid-level engineers, raising the technical bar across the organization
  • Produce and maintain high-quality architecture documentation, standards, and design artifacts
  • Serve as a role model for rigor, communication, and operational excellence

Ideal Candidate Will Have
  • 7+ years of experience in enterprise infrastructure or networking engineering, with deep expertise in DDI (DNS, DHCP, IPAM)
  • Proven experience designing and operating enterprise-scale DDI platforms
  • Expert-level understanding of DNS, DHCP, and IPAM, including security, resiliency, performance, and operational considerations
  • Demonstrated success designing and implementing automation-driven infrastructure solutions
  • Proven ability to influence architecture and technical direction across teams and organizations
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills

Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience with commercial DDI platforms such as BlueCat, Infoblox, or equivalent solutions
  • Experience integrating DDI services with public cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, GCP)
  • Familiarity with DevOps, SRE, and platform engineering practices
  • Experience operating in a Staff or above technical role
  • Knowledge of DNS security technologies and threat-mitigation strategies (e.g., DNSSEC, policy enforcement, telemetry)

Minimum Qualifications:
• 5+ years of Networked Systems-related work experience with a Bachelor's degree.
