Department Summary

The University of North Texas Health at Fort Worth is excited to announce the formation of its College of Nursing. This new college will help address the shortage of nurses in Texas, which has the second-fewest nurses per capita in the U.S.

Position Overview

The Academic Clinical Placement Coordinator reports to the Sr. Associate Dean for Academic Affairs and is responsible for coordinating and securing high-quality clinical learning experiences for nursing students across academic programs. This role serves as a liaison between the College of Nursing, healthcare partners, faculty, and students to ensure that clinical placements meet program outcomes, accreditation standards, and regulatory requirements.
The coordinator supports the operational execution of clinical education by managing placements, collaborating with the Office of Clinical Affairs in the maintenance of affiliation agreements and ensuring compliance, and contributing to the development of sustainable academic-practice partnerships.

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelors degree and four (4) to eight (8) years of related experience in a hospital and/or ambulatory care setting; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office suite of programs: Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.

  • Ability to make independent decisions and know when to check with higher authority.
  • Ability to manage multiple deadlines and priorities in a fast-paced environment.
  • Knowledge of accreditation standards and clinical education requirements.
  • High proficiency in Microsoft office is required.
  • Knowledge of clinical placement processes in nursing education preferred

Job Duties

  • Coordinate clinical placements for undergraduate and graduate nursing programs based on course objectives and program learning outcomes.
  • Match students with appropriate clinical sites and preceptors to ensure alignment with competency development.
  • Work closely with Lead course faculty and program coordinators to identify clinical placement needs.
  • Communicate placement assignments and updates to faculty and students.
  • Collaborate with Associate Dean and track coordinators with preceptor vetting.
  • Assist faculty with resolving clinical placement issues or concerns.
  • Support evaluation processes and dissemination of results for clinical sites and preceptors.
  • Manage placement timelines, scheduling, and communication with all stakeholders. 
  • Interface with clinical partners regarding onboarding of students, badging needs, Electronic health record access, and orientation attendance.
  • Update, track, manage information, and generate reports associated with clinical rotations, capacity, utilization, and placement.
  • Maintain accurate records of placements, clinical hours, and site utilization.
  • Serve as a point of contact for clinical partners regarding student placements.
  • Support efforts to expand clinical placement capacity and diversify clinical learning environments.
  • Input student rotation requests and any placement changes in a timely manner. 
  • Identify trends and opportunities for improvement in clinical placement processes.
  • Participate on committees as assigned. 
  • Contribute to development and implementation of policies and procedures related to clinical placements.
  • Foster strong relationships with healthcare systems, community organizations, and preceptors.
  • Ensure students and preceptors meet all compliance requirements (e.g., background checks, immunizations, licensure verification).
  • Ensure alignment with accreditation standards (e.g., CCNE) and state regulatory requirements (e.g., Texas Board of Nursing).
  • All other duties as assigned.

Work Schedule

Monday - Friday, 8:00am - 5:00pm, with occasional evenings and weekends as required by college events. This is an on campus position.
