What you'll be doing
The Network Security Adversary Emulation (NSAE) Purple team is responsible for proactive detection testing and emulation of threat actor activity within the Verizon network. To perform this task we have a number of systems in a Cyber Range. We also support the systems for the NSAE Penetration Test and Red Teams.
As a member of NSAE some of your key responsibilities will be:
  • System administration for virtual and dedicated hardware systems.
  • Ensuring system and software compliance with Verizon security policies.
  • Hardware and system installation.
  • System upgrades and patches.
  • Maintaining system documentation.
  • Assisting NSAE members with system issues.
  • Installing/updating/removing software and packages.
  • System and software configuration.
  • Monitoring system and software logs.
  • Automation of tools for testing and system administration.

The ideal candidate will have the ability to develop and implement custom tools and scripts, possess an understanding of operating system security, networking protocols, firewalls, databases and middleware applications, scripting and programming. Additionally, the candidate needs to have the ability to communicate highly technical information to align with Verizon objectives.
What we're looking for...
You'll need to have:
  • Bachelor's degree or four or more years of work experience.
  • Four or more years of relevant experience required, demonstrated through work experience and/or military experience.
  • Expertise in administering Unix, Linux, and Windows systems, with familiarity in securing cloud technologies across AWS, Azure, and GCP.
  • Strong programming skills (Python, PowerShell, Bash) for task automation, bulk configuration changes, API interactions, and custom tool development.
  • Deep understanding of network infrastructure, including hands-on technical proficiency with Cisco devices.
  • Capability to design Low-Level Design (LLD) diagrams and maintain physical topology mappings to effectively communicate security boundaries and system configurations.
  • Hands-on experience deploying and managing modern containerized environments using Docker and Kubernetes.
  • Technical proficiency with enterprise logging and monitoring tools (e.g., Splunk, Zabbix, SevOne), alongside a strong grasp of OS and cloud security controls.
  • Solid understanding of databases and SQL, with proven experience analyzing, parsing, and working with large datasets.
  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds to assist with physical hardware and rack installations.

Even better if you have one or more of the following:
  • A degree in engineering or computer science.
  • Experience with security risk procedures, security patterns, authentication technologies and security attack pathologies.
  • Experience with incident response, security operations, malware analysis, or threat hunting Working knowledge of Splunk and Elastic Search
  • Strong understanding of offensive and defensive security principles and practices.
  • Background in intrusion detection, threat hunting, security investigations, and incident response.
  • Familiarity with blue team technologies, including EDR, NDR, SIEM, data sources, and threat hunting.
  • Knowledge of adversary tactics, MITRE ATT&CK and knowledge of real attackers behaviors.
  • Exploit, shellcode, or exploit tool development, extension, or modification experience.
  • Active directory security skills.
  • Profound knowledge of covert channels, network protocols, and data on the wire.
  • Experience supporting daily operations
  • Good communication skills.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
