Job description

Banquet Sous Chef

Cincinnati, Ohio | Full-Time | Marriott Property | Valor Hospitality Partners

It’s an exciting time to join The Summit Hotel. As a Marriott property managed by Valor Hospitality Partners, we’re building on what makes The Summit unique while bringing together the resources, standards, and opportunities of two global hospitality organizations.

We’re looking for a Banquet Sous Chef who is excited to help shape what comes next, someone who enjoys leading a team, takes pride in great food, and knows how to bring consistency and creativity to high-volume events.

At Valor, we call ourselves Hotelitarians: hospitality professionals who care about the details, the people around us, and creating experiences worth remembering. With 100+ properties spanning 65 cities and 22 countries, Valor offers the reach of a global hospitality company with a culture that values individuality, collaboration, and local character.

What You’ll Do

As Banquet Sous Chef, you’ll work closely with our Executive Chef to lead culinary execution for meetings, weddings, celebrations, and special events at The Summit Hotel.

You’ll have the opportunity to:

  • Lead and develop a culinary team through hands-on coaching, training, feedback, and day-to-day support.
  • Bring events to life by overseeing food preparation, execution, plating, and presentation for banquets and catered events.
  • Partner with the Executive Chef on menus, culinary ideas, event execution, and opportunities to continually elevate the guest experience.
  • Create consistency without sacrificing creativity, ensuring every plate meets our standards for flavor, presentation, and quality.
  • Build a positive kitchen culture where communication, teamwork, accountability, and respect are part of how we work.
  • Collaborate across departments, particularly with banquet and front-of-house teams, to create seamless events and memorable guest experiences.
  • Manage inventory thoughtfully, including ordering, storage, waste reduction, and food-cost awareness.
  • Maintain a safe, organized kitchen that meets food safety, sanitation, and workplace standards.
  • Support scheduling and staffing to ensure the culinary team is set up for success.
What You Bring

We’re interested in culinary professionals who combine strong kitchen skills with the ability to lead people well. Our ideal candidate brings:

  • Professional culinary or high-volume food preparation experience.
  • Previous leadership, supervisory, or kitchen management experience.
  • Banquet, catering, hotel, convention, or high-volume event experience is a plus.
  • Strong organization and the ability to prioritize when managing multiple events and deadlines.
  • A collaborative leadership style and strong communication skills.
  • A genuine commitment to food quality, consistency, and presentation.
  • Culinary education is welcomed, but equivalent hands-on experience is equally valued.
Why Join The Summit?

This is more than an opportunity to join one hotel. As part of Marriott and Valor Hospitality Partners, you'll have access to hospitality experiences and career opportunities that extend well beyond Cincinnati.

Benefits and perks include:

  • Marriott team member hotel discounts
  • Valor Hospitality travel discounts across 100+ properties in 65 cities and 22 countries
  • Competitive salary
  • Health, dental, and vision insurance
  • Life insurance and supplemental benefit options
  • Paid time off
  • 401(k) with employer match
  • Food & beverage discounts
  • Tuition reimbursement
  • Opportunities for professional growth within an international hospitality portfolio
The Work Environment

Hospitality is hands-on, and this position requires regular standing and walking, movement throughout the kitchen and event spaces, and the ability to lift up to 50 pounds. Kitchen environments may be warm, humid, busy, and noisy, particularly during event execution.

Ready for What’s Next?

If you’re looking for an opportunity to lead, create, and be part of an exciting new chapter at The Summit Hotel, we’d love to hear from you.

Apply today and bring your talent to a team that’s moving forward.
