Jefferson Parish Civil Service Job Announcement

Jefferson Parish Civil Service is an Equal Opportunity Employer.

Purpose of Announcement

Examination is announced to supplement the existing employment list to fill multiple East and West Jefferson vacancies in various public works departments. This employment list will also be used for future East and West Jefferson vacancies in various departments as they occur. Note: Selective certification of eligibles with a Louisiana Class "A" CDL and an acceptable driving record will be used in filling majority of the current vacancies.

Kind of Work

The purpose of this position is to operate large tandem dump trucks (8 yards and over), maintenance trucks, trash trucks, trucks equipped with tandem axles, and/or any truck that requires a Louisiana Class "B" CDL to operate. Employee is responsible for minor maintenance and servicing of assigned truck. This position is also an essential, emergency duty status worker and may not be relieved of duty when the Parish President or his designee recommends a voluntary or mandatory evacuation of Jefferson Parish. Note: Some positions may be required to operate a truck while towing a trailer; in which case selective certification of eligibles with a Louisiana Class "A" CDL would be used in filling those vacancies.

Minimum Qualifications For Admission to Examination

Possession of a current Louisiana Class B (or higher) Commercial Driver's License (CDL)* and an acceptable driving record. *Note: A valid Class B (or higher) Commercial Driver's License (CDL) from a state other than Louisiana is acceptable for application; however, once an employment offer is extended, an applicant has ten (10) days to obtain the required Louisiana CDL. Failure to obtain a Louisiana CDL will disqualify an applicant for permanent employment in this position.
