Description
The University of Washington Department of Otolaryngology-Head and Neck Surgery is actively recruiting a full-time academic sleep surgeon at the rank of Assistant or Associate Professor without tenure by reason of funding (WOT). Academic title/rank will be commensurate with experience/qualifications.
Assistant Professors WOT are eligible for multi-year appointments that align with a 12-month service period (July 1-June 30). Faculty with 12-month service periods are paid for 11 months of service over a 12-month period (July-June), meaning the equivalent of one month is available for paid time off.
Associate Professors hold indefinite appointments that align with a 12-month service period (July 1-June 30). Faculty with 12-month service periods are paid for 11 months of service over a 12-month period (July-June), meaning the equivalent of one month is available for paid time off.
University of Washington faculty engage in teaching, research and service.
This position is based in the UW Medicine Sleep Center, which is located at Harborview Medical Center. The Sleep Center moved in January 2025 to a newly designed and remodeled space, which includes a 10-bed Sleep Laboratory, a full home sleep testing program, 11 clinic rooms (including 3 sleep surgery clinic/procedure rooms), a CT scanner, staff offices, and a faculty office suite. The Sleep Center houses seven on-site board sub-certified sleep medicine physicians and surgeons, three sleep medicine fellows, four on-site sleep medicine and surgery nurse practitioners, associated support staff, and other trainees. The Center is the hub for the larger affiliated sleep medicine and sleep surgery community, including board sub-certified sleep medicine physicians at the Seattle VA Medical Center (nine) and Seattle Children's Hospital (seven).
The primary focus of this position will be to practice and teach comprehensive sleep surgery within the UW Sleep Center, including nerve stimulation therapy, in collaboration with Sleep Medicine colleagues based in UW Medicine and in the community. The faculty member will take standard faculty call and contribute to a multi-disciplinary practice environment which includes teaching (fellows, residents, and medical students) and research (clinical or basic science). The anticipated start date is January 2027.
Positive factors for consideration include, but are not limited to, completion of a Sleep Surgery and/or Sleep Medicine fellowship, and board sub-certification or eligibility in Sleep Medicine.

Assistant Professor WOT Rank:
The base salary range for this position at the Assistant Professor WOT rank will be: $25,834 - $26,667 per month ($310,008 - $320,004 annually) commensurate with experience and qualifications, or as mandated by a U.S. Department of Labor prevailing wage determination. This range is inclusive of base salary provided through the UW Physicians (UWP) practice plan, in addition to base salary provided by the University. Please note that only compensation provided by the University is included in University benefit determinations and calculations. Compensation provided by UW Physicians (UWP) practice plan may provide eligibility for separate benefits offered by that organization.
Other compensation associated with this position may include semi-annual additional compensation through the University of Washington Physicians Group. The UW department of Otolaryngology-Head & Neck Surgery targets the AAMC 50th percentile for total salary.
Associate Professor WOT Rank:
The base salary range for this position at the Associate Professor WOT rank will be: $34,167 - $35,834 per month ($410,004 - $430,008 annually) commensurate with experience and qualifications, or as mandated by a U.S. Department of Labor prevailing wage determination. This range is inclusive of base salary provided through the UW Physicians (UWP) practice plan, in addition to base salary provided by the University. Please note that only compensation provided by the University is included in University benefit determinations and calculations. Compensation provided by UW Physicians (UWP) practice plan may provide eligibility for separate benefits offered by that organization.

Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications
Minimum qualifications include a MD (or foreign equivalent), certified or eligible for certification by the American Board of Otolaryngology, and eligible for a Washington State medical license.
In order to be eligible for University sponsorship for an H-1B, graduates of foreign (non-US) medical schools must show successful completion of all three steps of the US Medical Licensing Exam (USMLE), or equivalent as determined by the Secretary of Health and Human Services.
