General Purpose

Design, test and integrate telecommunications and network communications systems in support of reliable electrical system operations. Responsibilities include provisioning and programming of telecommunications or network equipment including microwave radios, MAS systems, fiber optic terminals, multiplexers, and network switches. Deliver high quality, reliable and complex telecommunication systems.

Responsibilities
  • Provide functional leadership and technical expertise for engineering team with specific focus on Optical Transport Networks.
  • Act as a subject matter expert, support needs of other business units and provide solutions for solving core and strategic business initiatives.
  • Complete detailed design of telecommunications systems and provide detailed scoping, and estimating for highly complex projects.
  • Promote always working safely and stress the importance of driving in a safe manner. Have meetings as required with technicians to discuss safety issues.
  • Consult with users to determine system requirements. Evaluate user requests to determine feasibility, costs and time frames.
  • Develop and maintain ongoing relationships with hardware, software, carrier, consulting and employee resource vendors to ensure that the company's systems are adequately supported and external influences on the company's systems are understood and used in planning.
  • Perform any additional responsibilities as requested or assigned.
Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree in information systems, computer science, and relevant telecommunication transport system or a related field or equivalent related work experience. (Typically six years of related, progressive work experience would be needed for candidates applying for this position who do not possess a bachelor's degree.)
  • Six to eight years of related experience, including one year in a technical leadership role. Working knowledge of voice, data, radio and microwave communications systems.
  • Expert level knowledge of Telecommunication systems, including but not limited to: Trunking, Circuit Design, Synchronous Optical Networking, Multiplexing, T1. Microwave Radio, and distribution and transmission.
  • Expert level knowledge of Ciena 6500 and 3900 series hardware.
  • Expert level understanding of ITU G.709, G.8032, G.8262, and IEEE 802.3 network standards.
  • Knowledge of information technology terms, equipment, systems, functions and major vendors.
  • Understanding of Electrical Utility operations and circuit requirements.
  • Effective oral and written communication skills, including presentation skills.
  • Effective interpersonal skills and customer relationship skills.
  • Effective analytical, problem-solving and decision-making skills.
  • Project management skills, ability to prioritize and handle multiple tasks and projects concurrently.
