Fork Union Military Academy
An all-boys boarding school located in the beautiful central Virginia region near Charlottesville, Richmond, and the Blue Ridge Mountains.
Description
Fork Union Military Academy is seeking a dependable and experienced Assistant Director of Maintenance to assist in overseeing the maintenance, repair, and improvement of Academy facilities and grounds.
The Assistant Director works closely with the Director of Maintenance to coordinate daily maintenance operations, respond to campus needs, support maintenance staff, and help ensure Academy facilities are safe, functional, and properly maintained.
Team members shall be willing to adhere to, encourage, and support the Academy's mission and core values while demonstrating professionalism, teamwork, and a commitment to maintaining a safe and high-quality campus environment.
Essential Job Functions
Supervisory Responsibilities: The Assistant Director of Maintenance assists the Director of Maintenance with the management and supervision of facilities support staff. Responsibilities include assisting with daily work assignments, establishing and upholding performance expectations and standards, and assisting with employee evaluations.
General Duties/Responsibilities: The Assistant Director assists with the repair, maintenance, and improvement of Academy facilities and is responsible for receiving, evaluating, prioritizing, and completing daily work order requests from departments throughout campus. The position also assists with scheduling preventative maintenance and responds to maintenance emergencies as necessary.
The Assistant Director coordinates with Academy departments regarding major repairs, renovations, and maintenance projects; orders materials and maintains appropriate inventory; and assists maintenance staff with daily tasks based on the needs of the Academy.
Additional responsibilities include assisting with the setup and breakdown of special events, snow and storm removal, and other weather-related campus needs. The Assistant Director will serve as the primary on-call contact when the Director of Maintenance is unavailable and will perform other duties as assigned.
Required Skills/Abilities
  • Working knowledge of building maintenance and repair practices
  • Basic knowledge of structural, mechanical, plumbing, and electrical systems
  • Ability to prioritize multiple work orders and respond appropriately to urgent maintenance needs
  • Ability to effectively supervise and work collaboratively with maintenance staff and other Academy departments
  • Strong communication and organizational skills
  • Ability to follow written and verbal instructions
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Must successfully pass a background check and participate in random drug testing

Education and Experience
  • Previous facilities maintenance experience required
  • Previous supervisory or leadership experience preferred
  • Experience with a variety of building systems, maintenance operations, and preventative maintenance preferred
  • Fork Union Military Academy is a veteran-friendly employer

Work Schedule
The standard schedule is 40 hours per week. The Assistant Director must be available to respond to emergencies, and other campus needs as required. Additional hours may occasionally be necessary for special events, weather-related needs, or other Academy operations. The Assistant Director will serve as the primary on-call contact when the Director of Maintenance is unavailable.
Physical Requirements
This position requires the physical ability to perform and assist with a variety of maintenance-related duties. The employee must be able to stand, walk, bend, stoop, climb stairs and ladders, and lift, carry, push, or pull equipment and materials as necessary. Duties may be performed indoors and outdoors in varying weather conditions.
