Job Summary:

The Allina Health Nursing Assistant Academy is designed for individuals who are ready to begin a meaningful career in patient care. Unlike traditional training programs, you'll be paid while you learn, gaining hands-on experience and classroom instruction during our four-week Academy. Academy participants will join one of two available cohorts beginning October 5, 2026 or November 2, 2026.
This unique training and development program provides the opportunity to become a Nursing Assistant through Allina Health while building valuable skills and experience in a supportive learning environment.
Upon successful completion of the Academy, participants will transition into a Nursing Assistant position in the Abbott Northwestern Hospital Float Pool. The Float Pool offers the opportunity to work across a variety of patient care areas, expand your clinical experience, and build a strong foundation for a long-term healthcare career. Placement is contingent upon successful completion of the Academy.

Key Position Details:

* Apply to this posting to be considered for one of the 15 spots available between the two fall co-horts.

Academy Pay Rate: $20.00

As an Academy participant, you'll work a 0.7 FTE (56 hours per two-week pay period) Day shift schedule for 4 weeks while completing your training. After successfully completing the program, you'll step directly into a 0.9 FTE (72 hours per two-week pay period) Nursing Assistant role in the Abbott Northwestern Hospital Float Pool, working either Days or Nights with an every-other-weekend rotation.

After successful completion permanent Nursing Assistant position will be union-represented under a collective bargaining agreement.

Job Description:

Principle Responsibilities

  • Attend and participate in Allina Health's Nursing Assistant Academy, with both in person and virtual learning at the Allina Commons in Minneapolis.

  • Learn basic nursing skills including how to take vital signs, provide personal cares, and mobility assistance.

  • After successfully completing all coursework, exams, and competencies required of the course, the trainee will be hired into a permanent Nursing Assistant position at Abbott Northwestern Hospital.

  • Other duties as assigned.


Required Qualifications

  • Must be 18 years of age with education and/or experience needed to meet required principle competencies as listed on the job description


Preferred Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED


Physical Demands

  • Medium Work*:

  • Lifting weight up to 32 lbs. occasionally (*Allina Safe Patient Moving Policy), up to 25 lbs. frequently

Pay Range

Pay Range: $18.49 to $25.19 per hour The pay described reflects the base hiring pay range. Your starting rate would depend on a variety of factors including, but not limited to, your experience, education, and the union agreement (if applicable). Shift, weekend and/or other differentials may be available to increase your pay rate for certain shifts or work.
