U. S. Steel Tubular has an immediate opening for a Quality Assurance - Coordinator at its pipe threading facility located in Houston, TX. Reporting to the Senior Quality Manger in Fairfield, Alabama. The Coordinator position will have the responsibility of overseeing the Quality Engineers at the U.S. Steel facilities in Houston, TX and Pine Bluff, AR as well as contracted monitoring of various pipe processing facilities in Texas and surrounding states. Successful candidates demonstrate their commitment to safety, environmental compliance, quality, and ethics by following U.S. Steel's core values. U.S. Steel tubular manufactures a full line of threaded pipe for Oil Country Tubular Goods (OCTG) and Standard and Line (S&L) pipe.
Responsibilities:
  • Foster a culture, including ways of working and behaviors, that is congruent with our mission, values, and success model
  • Management of Quality Engineers
  • Oversight of the Quality Management System at Offshore Operations Houston (OOH) and Wheeling Machine Products (WMP)
  • Oversite of contractors performing monitoring of U.S. Steel products at other processing facilities.
  • As necessary, be the interface between U.S. Steel and various customers.
  • Improve the Quality Management System (QMS) by utilizing root cause analysis and corrective actions when needed, scheduled and unscheduled quality auditing and monitoring, ensuring inspection and testing compliance, and improving customer satisfaction,
  • Knowledge or ability to become an expert in premium thread gauging.
  • Supporting operations and staff groups within Tubular.

Requirements:
  • Bachelor's degree in Metallurgical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Material Science, or a closely related field
  • 10+ years of experience in manufacturing with demonstrable technical expertise in Quality Assurance activities
  • 5+ years supervisory experience
  • Excellent communication skills. English speaking position. Fluency in Spanish a plus
  • Strong writing skills with proficiency in technical writing.
  • Experience leading teams and working with customers
  • Proven track record of troubleshooting difficult problems in a plant environment
  • Knowledge and experience with QMS including ISO 9001
  • Familiarity with API 5CT and API Q1 standards a plus
  • Travel up to 50%
  • Desirable Qualifications:
  • Advanced degree and/or MBA
  • Certified ISO 9001 Lead Auditor
  • Level 2 certification in MFL and/or UT
