What is a turf company?

A Turf Company is a business that specializes in the production, supply, installation, and maintenance of turfgrass, commonly known as sod or lawn grass. These companies provide turf for residential lawns, commercial landscapes, sports fields, and golf courses. They may offer natural grass, artificial turf, or both options, along with related services such as soil preparation, irrigation installation, and lawn care advice. Turf companies are essential for creating and maintaining healthy, green outdoor spaces for a variety of purposes.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive at a turf company?

To thrive at a Turf Company, you need knowledge of turf management, horticulture, and landscaping, often supported by relevant certifications or experience in groundskeeping. Familiarity with specialized lawn care equipment, irrigation systems, and turf management software is commonly required. Strong attention to detail, customer service, and teamwork skills help ensure high-quality work and client satisfaction. These abilities are vital for maintaining healthy turf, meeting client expectations, and efficiently managing landscape projects.

What are some common challenges faced by employees working at a turf company, and how can they be addressed?

Employees at a turf company often face challenges such as working in varying weather conditions, managing physical labor, and coordinating with different teams (e.g., sales, installation, and maintenance). To address these, it's important to prioritize safety protocols, use proper equipment, and communicate clearly with colleagues. Additionally, developing time management and problem-solving skills can help employees adapt to changing project requirements and ensure customer satisfaction.

Job description

Outside Sales & Business Development โ€“ Artificial Turf

Artificial Turf of Texas | Dallasโ€“Fort Worth, TX

50% of Gross Profit | Uncapped Commission | Hunter Role

Artificial Turf of Texas is looking for a driven Outside Sales & Business Development Representative to build and manage a book of contractor accounts throughout DFW.

This is a true hunter position.

We are not looking for someone to sit back and wait for leads. We want someone who knows how to identify opportunities, get in front of decision-makers, build relationships and turn those relationships into repeat business.

Your primary targets will include pool builders, custom home builders, large landscape companies, outdoor-living contractors and other companies regularly installing or specifying artificial turf.

The Opportunity

Our compensation structure is simple:

You earn 50% of the gross profit on every self-generated project you sell and manage.

There is no cap on commissions. Ever.

The goal is for you to build your own portfolio of contractor relationships that generate repeat projectsโ€”not simply chase one-time sales.

Build a strong account and you continue benefiting from the business you generate through that relationship. Build multiple strong accounts and your earning potential grows with your book of business.

We provide the installation expertise, crews, materials, estimating support and operational infrastructure.

You create the opportunities and own the relationships.

What You'll Do

You will actively prospect throughout the DFW market through phone calls, email, networking, office visits and jobsite visits.

Your responsibilities will include identifying high-value prospective accounts, finding the appropriate decision-makers, introducing Artificial Turf of Texas as a trade partner, uncovering upcoming projects, coordinating estimates and proposals, following up consistently, closing opportunities and managing the customer relationships you develop.

Your objective is straightforward:

Become the person your accounts call when they have a turf project.

Who We're Looking For

We're looking for someone who is:

  • A genuine hunter who enjoys creating opportunities
  • Comfortable cold calling and walking into businesses
  • Persistent with follow-up
  • Confident communicating with owners, project managers and estimators
  • Capable of developing long-term B2B relationships
  • Organized enough to manage multiple opportunities and accounts
  • Self-motivated and able to work independently
  • Competitive and motivated by uncapped earning potential

Previous outside sales or business-development experience in construction, pools, landscaping, outdoor living, building materials, roofing, hardscape or a related industry is strongly preferred.

Existing relationships with DFW pool builders, custom builders, landscapers, GCs or outdoor-living companies are a major plus.

Artificial turf experience is not required. We can teach turf. We are looking for someone who knows how to sell and build relationships.

Compensation50% of Gross Profit

On all qualifying self-generated projects that you sell and manage.

Uncapped

There is no maximum commission and no artificial ceiling on your earning potential.

Repeat Business Matters

This role is designed to reward someone for developing valuable long-term accountsโ€”not just closing individual projects.

For illustration, an account generating $500,000 in annual revenue at a 30% gross margin would produce $150,000 in gross profit. Under a 50% GP commission structure, that would represent $75,000 in commission.

Develop multiple productive accounts and the opportunity grows substantially.

Gross profit, qualifying self-generated accounts/projects, account ownership, payment timing and eligible direct project costs will be clearly defined in the compensation agreement.

About Artificial Turf of Texas

Artificial Turf of Texas is a DFW-based artificial turf installation company serving residential and commercial clients throughout North Texas.

Our work includes pool surrounds and turf strips, landscape turf, custom putting greens, pet turf systems, drainage applications, commercial projects, schools/playgrounds and specialty turf installations.

We want to become the go-to turf trade partner for builders and contractors throughout DFW by providing professional communication, quality installations and dependable project execution.

The Right Person for This Role

You probably won't enjoy this position if you need a steady stream of company-provided leads to stay productive.

You may be a great fit if you like prospecting, opening doors, building a network, winning accounts and watching your income grow as the book of business you've created grows.

We are looking for someone who thinks more like a business builder than an order taker.

Interested?

Apply with your rรฉsumรฉ and a short introduction explaining your outside-sales experience and why you believe you would be successful developing contractor relationships throughout DFW.
