Tile Tech information

What is a tile tech?

Tile Techs, short for Tile Technicians, are skilled professionals who specialize in installing, repairing, and maintaining various types of tile surfaces. Their work involves cutting, measuring, and laying tiles made from materials such as ceramic, porcelain, marble, or stone in spaces like kitchens, bathrooms, and commercial areas. Tile Techs also prepare surfaces, ensure proper alignment, and apply grout and sealants to finish and protect tile installations. Precision, attention to detail, and knowledge of materials and tools are essential skills for this role.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a tile tech, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Tile Tech, you need strong skills in measuring, cutting, and installing various types of tile, usually supported by a high school diploma or equivalent and on-the-job training. Familiarity with tile saws, trowels, levels, grout mixers, and reading blueprints is essential for quality installations. Attention to detail, problem-solving, and excellent customer service make someone stand out in this role. These skills ensure precise work, customer satisfaction, and the successful completion of tile installation projects.

What are the most common challenges tile techs face on the job, and how can they be effectively managed?

Tile Techs often encounter challenges such as working with uneven surfaces, ensuring precise alignment, and managing time efficiently to meet project deadlines. Additionally, dealing with unexpected issues like damaged materials or environmental conditions can require quick problem-solving and adaptability. Effective communication with team members, careful planning, and attention to detail are key strategies for overcoming these challenges. Employers typically support Tile Techs with ongoing training, access to quality tools, and collaboration with other construction professionals to ensure successful project outcomes.

About Tile Tech

Tile Tech is an established, profitable company with 25+ years of experience delivering outdoor and rooftop decking solutions nationwide. We specialize in premium porcelain pavers and integrated pedestal/roof deck systems for commercial and residential projects. Our team is known for strong customer support, practical innovation, and reliable execution from quote to delivery.

Role Summary

We’re hiring a Customer Service & Order Processing Specialist to support a high-volume phone and email environment. You will respond quickly and professionally to customer questions, create and revise quotes from inbound requests (web inquiries, emails, and phone calls), convert quotes to invoices, collect deposit payments, assist with A/R follow-up, and track orders through production, shipping, and delivery—keeping customers informed and internal teams aligned.

This is a detail-driven role that requires urgency, accuracy, and consistent follow-through (no dropped customer threads).

Work Setup / Training

You will sit next to our estimating team for fast hand-offs, training, and quick quote revisions.

Key Responsibilities

  • Handle inbound calls/emails with a friendly, professional tone (high volume)
  • Create quotes from inbound requests; revise quotes accurately and quickly
  • Convert quotes to invoices; collect and confirm deposit payments
  • Use our system daily to track orders, customer status, vendors / POs, and internal notes
  • Follow up on open quotes/invoices and maintain strong documentation (“paper trail”)
  • A/R follow-up support: polite payment reminders, status checks, and escalation when needed
  • Coordinate internally on production and shipping timelines; provide proactive customer updates
  • Resolve issues calmly and professionally (schedule changes, delivery timing, missing info, etc.)

Qualifications

  • 2+ years in customer service, order processing, account coordination, or similar role in a fast-paced environment
  • Strong professional writing (email) and clear phone communication
  • Highly organized, responsive, and consistent follow-through
  • Construction/building products experience strongly preferred (pavers/tile/stone, hardscape, decking, roofing, flooring, building materials distribution, etc.)
  • Sage 50/Peachtree strongly preferred (QuickBooks experience is a good substitute)
  • Bilingual English/Spanish is a plus
  • Comfortable using Excel and email daily

Work Environment

Fully remodeled offices located within our 25,000 sq ft warehouse and distribution center, plus an employee lunch room/break area.

Benefits

  • 401(k)
  • Paid holidays include: Thanksgiving Day and Christmas Day
  • 90-day performance review with opportunity for a pay increase based on results

To Apply: Resume + answer the screening questions (including two short writing prompts).
