Is it illegal to sell stuff out of a storage unit?

Commission storage auctions involve selling items from storage units when tenants fail to pay. It is legal to sell these items at auction after proper notice and compliance with local laws; however, selling individual items outside of an auction without permission may be illegal. Auctioneers and storage facility operators must follow legal procedures to ensure the sale is valid and lawful.

How much commission do storage auctioneers make?

Storage auctioneers typically earn a commission ranging from 10% to 25% of the total sale price of the auctioned items. Their income depends on the value of the items sold and the number of auctions they conduct, often supplemented by fees for auction services. Experience and regional market conditions can also influence their earnings.

How to get involved in storage auctions?

To get involved in storage auctions as a storage auction clerk or bidder, research local auction companies or facilities that hold storage unit sales, and register to participate. Knowledge of auction procedures, payment methods, and sometimes a small registration fee are typically required; experience with inventory or storage management can be helpful.
