Job description

Triage Nurse (RN)

Full-Time | Onsite

Department: UBMD Obstetrics & Gynecology

Pay: Starting at $35

Locations: Downtown Buffalo & Williamsville


Position Summary

UBMD Obstetrics & Gynecology is seeking an experienced Triage Nurse (RN) to join our clinical team. This role serves as a key point of contact between patients and providers, supporting high-quality, patient-centered care through clinical assessment, education, communication, and coordination. The Triage Nurse primarily manages patient concerns via telephone and patient portal, with occasional in-person clinical support as needed.


Key ResponsibilitiesClinical Triage & Patient Communication
  • Assess patient symptoms and concerns, determine urgency, and recommend appropriate levels of care in accordance with clinical judgment, evidence-based guidelines, and UBMD/NYS protocols

  • Serve as a clinical liaison between patients and providers to ensure continuity of care

  • Provide nursing advice, education, and counseling to patients and families regarding care plans and next steps

Care Coordination & Medication Management
  • Facilitate medication refills and prior authorizations per provider direction

  • Assist with referrals and coordination of multidisciplinary care

  • Complete insurance prior authorization requests as required

Documentation, Quality & Safety
  • Accurately document all patient communications, assessments, and interventions in the electronic health record (EHR)

  • Adhere to UBMD and New York State standards of care, promoting patient safety and quality outcomes

Additional Clinical Support
  • Assist providers with procedures as needed

  • Perform venipuncture, blood collection, and specimen preparation for laboratory testing

  • Support clinical operations by performing LPN or medical assistant duties when necessary

  • Participate in additional clinical or administrative tasks as assigned


Qualifications
  • Graduate of an accredited Registered Nurse (RN) program

  • Current New York State RN license

  • Minimum of 3 years of nursing experience, preferably in an outpatient or OB/GYN setting

  • 1โ€“3 years of triage experience in a fast-paced clinical environment

  • Strong proficiency with computer and phone systems; ability to manage high call volumes

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills

  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to multitask and prioritize effectively
