Job description

Position Description

Employees in this position perform duties related to the care, treatment, and rehabilitation of program clients. Employees in this position are aware of available community resources, they make appropriate referrals to same, and they function as a member of a treatment team.

Position Expectation

In keeping with the mission and core values of Tri-County Human Services, all persons served, stakeholders, and fellow employees will be treated with dignity, respect, and shown sensitivity to their cultural diversity.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities

  • Assesses clients referred for substance abuse and mental health services for the purposes of treatment plan development.
  • Participates in family counseling sessions as a co-facilitator with direct supervision by a Counselor III or Clinical/Program Supervisor.
  • Teaches alcohol/drug education classes and provides other educational services.
  • Performs case management functions such as maintaining case records and coordinating additional services as needed.
  • Provides individual counseling to program clients under the supervision of a Clinical/ Program Supervisor.
  • Acts as a group leader/facilitator during group counseling sessions.
  • Performs other reasonable and related duties as requested by the immediate supervisor or administrative personnel.

Minimum Training and Experience

  • Requires Bachelor’s Degree in field related to Human Services from an accredited college or university, which include but not limited to: Social Work; Clinical Psychology; Counseling; Rehabilitative Counseling; Counseling Education; Education; Criminal Justice; or Ministry and at least two (2) years full-time experience in mental health or addictions treatment setting or certification as an Addictions Professional (CAP) by the Certification Board for Addiction Professionals of Florida. Requires participation in a staff training program.
  • Requires considerable knowledge of addictions treatment and/or mental health treatment including types of programs, various therapeutic methods and techniques, and an understanding of the factors contributing to the development of substance abuse, and/or mental health problems.
