Assistant Student Transportation Operations Manager

Join our team as an Assistant Student Transportation Operations Manager in our Shawnee Mission office, providing pupil transportation, where you will play a pivotal role in maintaining a safe, efficient, and exemplary transportation department.

Position Summary

The Assistant Student Transportation Operations Manager supports the overall management and daily operations of the student transportation department. Working under the direction of the Student Transportation Operations Manager, this position helps ensure that transportation services are safe, efficient, and reliable. The Assistant Manager provides administrative, logistical, and supervisory support to achieve departmental goals and maintain compliance with company and regulatory standards.

The ideal candidate is highly organized, safety-focused, and skilled in managing teams, resolving service issues, and improving operational performance.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assist with managing daily transportation operations, including dispatch and routing support
  • Manage driver and aide scheduling, coverage, hours, and overtime in coordination with the Operations Manager
  • Maintain effective communication and positive working relationships with district staff, parents, and school personnel
  • Supervise and support field staff, including interviewing, training, evaluating, and addressing performance concerns in partnership with HR
  • Monitor employee compliance requirements, attendance, and personnel documentation
  • Ensure accurate completion of timecards, payroll documentation, and required reports
  • Respond to and investigate accidents and incidents, complete video reviews, and file insurance claims as needed
  • Support safety initiatives, training programs, and in-service meetings
  • Assist with short- and long-term operational planning
  • Serve as back-up to drivers, aides, and the Operations Manager as needed, including participation in the on-call rotation
  • Perform other duties as assigned

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent required
  • Valid driver’s license
  • Experience with transportation operations, including scheduling, dispatch, and fleet maintenance preferred, but will train
  • Demonstrated ability to supervise, train, and evaluate staff
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to work effectively with employees, students, parents, and district personnel
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office, databases, and routing software
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced, team-oriented environment
  • Commitment to maintaining confidentiality and adhering to company policies
  • Must successfully pass a background check, drug screening, and motor vehicle record review

Physical Requirements

Ability to sit, stand, walk, bend, lift up to 50 pounds, and work outdoors in varying weather conditions. Work environment may include exposure to vehicle traffic and moderate noise levels in transportation yards or maintenance facilities.
