Job description

The Logistics Manager will oversee carrier relationships, warehouse logistics, inbound material planning, shipping operations, and logistics performance metrics. Working cross-functionally with Operations, Procurement, Production, and Supply Chain teams, this leader will ensure uninterrupted material availability, support production goals, and drive continuous improvement initiatives throughout the logistics function.


Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Lead and manage all inbound and outbound logistics operations, including domestic and international transportation activities.

  • Develop and execute logistics strategies that support production schedules, inventory objectives, and customer delivery requirements.

  • Supervise and mentor logistics personnel, providing coaching, performance management, and ongoing development.

  • Partner with the Plant Manager and Supply Chain leadership to align logistics operations with manufacturing priorities and capacity planning.

  • Manage relationships with freight carriers, transportation providers, and logistics partners to ensure high service levels and cost-effective transportation solutions.

  • Negotiate freight rates and monitor transportation costs while identifying opportunities for continuous cost savings.

  • Oversee scheduling and coordination of inbound raw materials, including OCC cardboard and other production inputs.

  • Ensure accurate processing and verification of Bills of Lading (BOLs), shipping documentation, freight invoices, and inventory transactions.

  • Monitor transportation performance, delivery schedules, and key logistics metrics while proactively resolving shipment delays, shortages, and service issues.

  • Utilize ERP and logistics management systems to maintain accurate inventory visibility, shipment tracking, and operational reporting.

  • Develop, monitor, and report key performance indicators (KPIs) related to freight costs, on-time delivery, inventory accuracy, and carrier performance.

  • Drive continuous improvement initiatives focused on process efficiency, inventory flow, warehouse organization, and transportation optimization.

  • Ensure compliance with all company safety policies, regulatory requirements, and transportation standards.

  • Collaborate closely with Procurement, Production, Quality, and Finance teams to support company growth and operational excellence.

  • Minimum Qualifications:

    • Bachelor's degree in Supply Chain Management, Logistics, Business, Operations Management, or a related field preferred.

    • 5+ years of progressive logistics, transportation, or supply chain experience in a manufacturing environment.

    • 2+ years of leadership or supervisory experience managing logistics operations or teams.

    • Experience managing carrier relationships, freight negotiations, and transportation planning.

    • Experience with ERP systems and logistics software.

  • Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

    • Strong knowledge of transportation management, warehouse operations, inventory control, and supply chain best practices.

    • Thorough understanding of Bills of Lading (BOLs), freight documentation, import/export documentation, and shipping regulations.

    • Demonstrated leadership skills with the ability to build, coach, and develop high-performing teams.

    • Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities with experience using data to drive operational improvements.

    • Excellent organizational, communication, and project management skills.

    • Ability to prioritize multiple initiatives in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.

    • Advanced proficiency with Microsoft Excel and ERP systems.

    • Experience developing KPIs, dashboards, and logistics reporting.

    • Continuous improvement mindset with Lean manufacturing or Six Sigma experience preferred.

  • Work Environment and Physical Demands:

    Combination of office and manufacturing plant environment.

    Frequent walking throughout the production facility and warehouse.

    Prolonged periods of sitting while working on a computer.

    Must be able to occasionally lift up to 50 pounds.

    Visual acuity to inspect materials, review shipping documentation, and monitor logistics operations.

    Ability to wear required Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) while in manufacturing areas.
