While both roles focus on safety within transit environments, Transit Police Officers have law enforcement authority and undergo police training, whereas Transit Security Officers primarily focus on surveillance and preventing security incidents without law enforcement powers.
A transit police officer oversees the security, safety, and well-being of passengers and workers using public transit. As a transit police officer, your responsibilities include investigating crimes and other incidents on transit lines, acting as a security guard when necessary, and enforcing the policies and regulation of the department of transit. You may also assist passengers for various non-emergency reasons. You need investigation, problem-solving, and interpersonal skills to be an effective transit police officer.
