General Summary:This position is an entry level position within the Financial Recovery Unit (FRU) where incumbents are considered trainees (FSR-T) for a minimum of 12 - 18 months while they learn and develop the skills, knowledge, and behaviors needed successfully calculate, communicate, and recover basic benefit overpayments on LTD and STD claims within a multi-system platform.
The incumbent works closely with a seasoned resource to manage a claim load of limited complexity while progressively gaining the capability to handle higher claim volumes and more complex claims with increasing independence.
This is a highly goal-oriented role; and the incumbent is expected to contribute meaningfully to the department's overall results. Although complexity is initially limited, the trainee will be expected to administer and recover overpayments across multiple products and systems with an expanding scope as the trainee becomes more proficient and independent.

Principal Duties and Responsibilities

Analyzeclaim file content and obtain necessary financial and benefit information (that may not beimmediatelyapparent) from colleagues, customers,and external resources to determineappropriate courseof action on each file.

Consistently communicate,handleoverpaymentcalculations,and manage a caseload of claims withlimitedcomplexity,demonstratingasolidtechnical ability necessary to administer overpayment claims across multiple products and system applications within established turnaround times.

Negotiate and bind the Company with respect to decisions maderegardingappropriateness of pursuing overpaymentswithin the scope of authority of the FSR-T role.

Thoroughly and accurately document and code FRU actions in claim and legacy systems with supporting rationale for actions and next steps.

Secure a professional relationship with the claimantand/or employer, provide excellent customer service,demonstrateempathy,andremainopen tonew information. Provide prompt,accurate, and courteous responses to customers to promote the Unum brand.

Actively participate in personal developmental activities, engage in activities which support Unum Values.

Participate in special projects or other assignments as needed, including administrative duties in support of the team.

This position may also include some administrative duties in support of the team.

Job Specifications

College degree preferred or equivalent workexperience

Demonstrate computer literacy and/or working knowledge of various claim systems (i.e.,BAS&NaviLink)

Demonstrate strong mathematical ability.

Have strong commitment to customer service, empathy, and high work quality

Demonstrate efficient time management and ability to prioritize based on changing environments.

The base salary range for applicants for this position is listed below. Unless actual salary is indicated above in the job description, actual pay will be based on skill, geographical location and experience.

$36,000.00-$68,000.00

Additionally, Unum offers a portfolio of benefits and rewards that are competitive and comprehensive including healthcare benefits (health, vision, dental), insurance benefits (short & long-term disability), performance-based incentive plans, paid time off, and a 401(k) retirement plan with an employer match up to 5% and an additional 4.5% contribution whether you contribute to the plan or not.
