Tier 3 Tech Support information

What is a Tier 3 Tech Support specialist?

Tier 3 Tech Support specialists are highly skilled technical experts who handle the most complex and advanced issues that cannot be resolved by lower-tier support teams. They are responsible for diagnosing and troubleshooting intricate hardware, software, or network problems, often working closely with product developers or engineers. Tier 3 specialists may also create documentation, provide solutions for recurring issues, and contribute to the improvement of support processes. Their deep technical knowledge enables them to resolve problems efficiently and mentor other support staff.

What skills and qualifications are needed to thrive as a Tier 3 Tech Support specialist?

A Tier 3 Tech Support specialist needs advanced troubleshooting abilities, deep technical knowledge in relevant systems, and typically a degree in computer science or related certifications. Familiarity with diagnostic tools, ticketing systems like ServiceNow, and expertise in platforms such as Windows, Linux, or networking hardware is crucial. Exceptional problem-solving, patience, and strong communication skills help in resolving complex issues and collaborating with both customers and internal teams. These skills ensure efficient resolution of escalated technical problems, maintain system reliability, and enhance customer satisfaction.

How does a Tier 3 Tech Support specialist collaborate with engineering and other support teams to resolve complex technical issues?

Tier 3 Tech Support specialists often work closely with engineering teams and lower-level support tiers to resolve advanced technical problems that cannot be addressed by Tier 1 or Tier 2. They investigate escalated issues, perform in-depth troubleshooting, and may replicate customer environments to identify root causes. Effective communication and documentation are key, as Tier 3 must relay findings to both engineers for potential product fixes and to customer-facing teams for clear status updates. This collaboration ensures efficient resolution of issues and helps improve overall product quality.

Job description

Taurean is a mission-driven defensive cyber operations firm delivering security engineering, risk management, and compliance execution for federal and regulated environments. Our teams protect operational systems, sensitive data, and high-assurance environments through disciplined engineering, structured compliance frameworks, and operational rigor.

Guided by our vision — Find Relevant Work. Create Meaningful Jobs. Our culture emphasizes strong leadership, family-first principles, and continuous development within a collaborative, performance-focused environment.

This opportunity supports mission-critical IT service delivery within a secure Department of War (DoW) environment. In this role, you will provide advanced end-user support while supporting coordination, reporting, and operational execution within a small, high-performing team.

About the Roles

We are hiring for two distinct roles under a singleposting:

  • Physical Security Network Engineer (Tier 3)
  • Physical Security System Administrator (Tier 2)

Both positions support Electronic Security Systems

(ESS), LENEL platforms, and secure network infrastructure in a mission-critical DoW environment.

These are full-time, onsite roles.

Role 1: Physical Security Network Engineer (Tier 3)

What You’ll Do

  • Lead network engineering, design, and lifecycle management for ESS/LENEL infrastructure
  • Provide Tier 3 support, solving complex or unknown issues
  • Configure and manage network security hardware and infrastructure
  • Implement proactive monitoring (FCAPS) and performance optimization
  • Design and validate solutions to critical system failures
  • Support SIEM tuning, threat detection, and incident response

Ideal Background

  • Strong experience in network engineering (routing, switching, firewalls)
  • Experience in Tier 3 escalation environments
  • Deep understanding of secure/DoW network environments

Role 2: Physical Security System Administrator (Tier 2)

What You’ll Do

  • Operate and administer LENEL and ESS systems
  • Provide Tier 2 support, troubleshooting escalated issues from Tier 1
  • Manage Active Directory, DNS, DHCP, and system services
  • Perform patching, STIG compliance, and system maintenance
  • Support backup, storage (SAN), and virtualization environments
  • Monitor systems, analyze logs, and resolve incidents

Ideal Background

  • Strong experience in system administration and enterprise IT support
  • Experience in Tier 2 troubleshooting and operations
  • Familiarity with secure or regulated environments

Shared Responsibilities (Both Roles)

  • Support ESS and CCTV infrastructure, including integration and troubleshooting
  • Maintain log management and SIEM operations (monitoring, tuning, response)
  • Conduct vulnerability scans and recommend remediation actions
  • Support backup and recovery operations, including testing
  • Deliver system health and performance reporting
  • Participate in on-call rotation (2-hour response requirement)
  • Support after-hours, weekend, and holiday operations as required
  • Assist with physical security systems and infrastructure support
  • Provide technical recommendations and system improvement guidance

Required Qualifications (Both Roles)

Certifications (Required)

  • CompTIA Security+ (Security+) or equivalent (DoD 8570/8140 compliant)
  • Cisco Certified Network Associate (CCNA) or equivalent

Clearance

  • Active Top Secret (TS/SCI) clearance (required)

Experience Requirements

  • Network Engineer: 5+ years (Tier 3 / engineering focus)
  • System Administrator: 3+ years (Tier 2 / operations focus)
  • Experience in DoW, classified, or high-security environments preferred

Preferred Experience

  • LENEL access control systems
  • SolarWinds, NetApp, VxRail, Thales, Quest
  • CMMC, NIST 800-171, RMF frameworks
  • Physical security systems (ESS, CCTV, access control)

Why Taurean

  • At Taurean, we don’t hand off problems—we own execution.
  • You’ll work in an environment where performance matters and what you do directly impacts mission success.

If it doesn’t run, it doesn’t matter.
