Job description

Focus/Objective
The Thermoforming Operator Assistant will support the plant activities by assisting in the setup, operation, and maintenance of thermoforming machines to ensure efficient production. This role is responsible for staging materials, monitoring machine performance, troubleshooting issues, and maintaining production targets. The assistant will also handle roll changes, real-time scanning of roll labels, documenting downtime, and ensuring all required paperwork is completed. Additionally, they will support quality inspections, assist with in-line re-inspections, and uphold food safety and cleanliness standards. This position requires strong attention to detail, collaboration with the Operations team, and adherence to all company policies and procedures to maintain a safe and efficient work environment.
Job Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Assist in setting up the machine to specifications outlined on the order.
  • Assist in setting up the machine to standard time and procedure.
  • Help operate the machine within standard production targets.
  • Assist in troubleshooting the machine when down or not performing to standard.
  • Assist maintenance with machine repairs and preventive maintenance.
  • Ensure correct roll specs are staged and change rolls as needed to keep Thermoforming lines in production.
  • Ensure the grinder is functioning properly.
  • Scan all roll labels in real-time to maintain accurate production tracking.
  • Record all downtime in the notebook kept at each line.
  • Ensure the CPM (cycles per minute) on the machine sign matches the machine's actual CPM; if discrepancies occur, report the issue to the lead and collaborate with the Operations team.
  • Create partial labels and accurately note rejection labels.
  • Monitor and cover breaks/lunches for other operators to ensure machines are monitored at all times.
  • Complete all required daily paperwork, including cleaning checklists.
  • Assist with in-line inspection when necessary and complete any re-inspection required due to quality issues from the assigned line.
  • Assist as needed to keep the Thermoforming lines in production.
  • Adjust machine components to regulate speeds, pressures, and temperatures.
  • Continuously improving the process as an individual and as a team member.
  • Ensure the work area is kept clean according to facility and corporate standards
  • Ensure all environmental standards and requirements are met.
  • Support and maintain all activities related to the Food Safety System, including machine cleaning schedules, checklists, and audits.
  • Achieve all production goals within established schedules and deadlines.
  • Perform any other duties assigned by the department manager.

Minimum Position Qualifications/Requirements:
  • Strong organizational and problem-solving skill
  • Detail oriented and commitment to follow through to completion.
  • Strong interpersonal skills; Strong team player
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment.
  • 6 to 12 months of experience as a Thermoforming Machine Operator, or related experience.
  • Manufacturing experience preferred

Preferred Skills/Qualifications & Education:
  • Experience manufacturing
  • Experience in wholesale distribution industry a plus

Education and Experience:
  • High School Diploma required.

Work Environment:
  • Must be able to perform under the following conditions
  • Work primarily production area without climate control
  • Work safely at all times.
  • Work occasionally in the warehouse, plant building, or outside plant area.
  • Able to occasionally work long hours without prior notice to assist the plant on urgent issues.
