What is a test development assistant?

Test Development Assistants are professionals who support the creation, organization, and administration of educational or professional assessments. They typically assist with tasks such as item writing, test formatting, proofreading, and maintaining databases of test questions. Their work ensures that exams are accurate, fair, and effectively measure the intended knowledge or skills. They may also help with data entry, preparing test materials, and coordinating logistics for test administration. Test Development Assistants often work under the supervision of test developers or psychometricians in educational institutions, certification boards, or testing organizations.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a test development assistant?

To thrive as a Test Development Assistant, you need strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and a background in educational measurement or a related field, often supported by a bachelor's degree. Familiarity with data analysis tools, test item authoring software, and learning management systems is typically required. Excellent communication, teamwork, and time management skills help you collaborate with stakeholders and manage multiple projects efficiently. These skills ensure the accuracy, fairness, and timely delivery of assessment materials essential for educational or certification programs.

What are the main challenges test development assistants face when coordinating with subject matter experts?

Test Development Assistants often work closely with subject matter experts (SMEs) to create accurate and relevant assessment materials. A common challenge is translating complex or technical content provided by SMEs into clear, measurable test items that align with learning objectives and testing standards. Effective communication, attention to detail, and familiarity with assessment frameworks are essential to bridge the gap between subject expertise and test design. Building strong collaborative relationships can help ensure the final assessments are both valid and reliable.

Job description

About Us
Infinitum is revolutionizing electric motors with our patented printed circuit board (PCB) stator technology.
We are a pre-IPO company backed by a distinguished group of strategic partners and some of the world's most influential climate tech funds. With strong traction in shipments and several major customer wins, the market now recognizes the value of our technology and the impact it will have on the future of the industry.
We have a world-class R&D organization, an extensive patent portfolio and a strong leadership team which is scaling the company up across all functions. We are headquartered in Austin, TX, and have a state-of-the-art manufacturing facility in Saltillo, Mexico, with room for significant expansion.
Increasingly, end customers are willing to pay a premium for solutions featuring "Infinitum Inside." Our OEM partners are successfully leveraging this differentiation to achieve higher close rates and command greater margins.
In short, we believe we have crossed the chasm-introducing breakthrough technology into a traditionally conservative sector. We are now ready to scale our go-to-market team substantially and are seeking team members who are passionate about rapid growth, eager to learn, and excited to tackle the challenges ahead as we make this journey together.
Position Overview
The Test Development Engineer will be responsible for designing, developing, and maintaining automated test systems for electric motors and their associated control systems, including Variable Frequency Drives (VFDs). The primary focus of this role is on test automation using LabVIEW and TestStand to create efficient, reliable, and scalable test processes. The Test Development Engineer will work closely with cross-functional teams to design custom test procedures, integrate hardware and software components, and ensure comprehensive data acquisition and analysis.
In this role, the engineer will also collaborate with the Product Design, Quality, and Manufacturing teams to validate product performance, troubleshoot issues, and optimize test protocols. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in both hardware and software, with a focus on automation, data acquisition, and test system development. Experience with LabVIEW and TestStand is critical to ensure successful execution and integration of test strategies within the production and R&D environments.
2 Key Responsibilities
- Design, develop, and implement automated test systems using LabVIEW and TestStand to evaluate electric motors, VFDs, and related components.
- Create and optimize test algorithms to measure critical motor parameters, including torque, speed, efficiency, and thermal behavior.
- Develop custom test scripts and software interfaces for hardware control and data acquisition.
- Integrate sensors, data acquisition systems, and control hardware into automated test setups.
- Analyze test data and generate comprehensive reports that provide insights into product performance.
- Collaborate with the Engineering, Quality, and Production teams to troubleshoot and improve test methodologies and product designs based on test results.
- Ensure test systems are scalable, reliable, and capable of handling a wide range of product configurations and conditions.
- Maintain detailed documentation of test procedures, system designs, and results to support ongoing development and compliance with industry standards.
- Perform routine maintenance, calibration, and upgrades of test equipment and systems.
- Provide training and technical support to test technicians and other team members on the use of automated test systems.
