Job description

Patient Registration Representative


Job Summary

Responsible for registering and pre-registering outpatient and inpatient patients, verifying demographic and insurance information, and accurately determining and collecting patient financial responsibility, including copays, coinsurance, and deductibles.


Key Responsibilities

  • Complete accurate patient registration and pre-registration for hospital and outpatient services.
  • Verify demographics, insurance coverage, eligibility, authorizations, and patient information.
  • Prepare required forms, documents, labels, and paperwork for patient visits.
  • Collect copayments, coinsurance, deductibles, and other patient balances professionally.
  • Explain insurance coverage and financial responsibility to patients and assist with payment arrangements.
  • Obtain required signatures and scan/maintain patient documentation.
  • Maintain accurate records and prevent duplicate medical records.
  • Follow HIPAA, EMTALA, hospital policies, and registration procedures.
  • Provide professional, compassionate customer service to patients, families, physicians, and staff.
  • Work efficiently in a high-volume environment while maintaining accuracy and productivity.
  • Support financial assistance, eligibility, and self-pay screening processes when applicable.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.


Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • At least 1 year of experience in a healthcare, hospital, medical office, or medical billing environment.
  • Strong insurance and billing knowledge.
  • Medical terminology knowledge preferred.
  • Strong computer skills, including Word and Excel.
  • Excellent communication, customer service, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to multitask and work in a fast-paced environment.
  • Strong typing skills (45+ WPM preferred).
  • Bilingual Spanish or Mandarin preferred.
  • Valid driver's license and ability to travel to off-site locations for outpatient assignments.
