What are some common challenges faced by professionals in temporary law positions, and how can they be addressed?

Professionals in temporary law roles often face challenges such as quickly adapting to new work environments, understanding varying firm processes, and managing fluctuating workloads. To address these challenges, it's important to develop strong organizational skills, maintain flexibility, and proactively communicate with team members to clarify expectations. Building a network of contacts within each assignment can also help ease transitions and provide valuable support. Additionally, being open to learning and demonstrating reliability can lead to repeat placements or even permanent opportunities.

What are temporary law jobs?

Temporary law jobs are short-term legal positions where professionals such as lawyers, paralegals, or legal assistants work on a contract or project basis instead of as permanent staff. These roles can include tasks like document review, legal research, or assisting during busy periods or special projects. Temporary law positions are common in law firms, corporate legal departments, and government agencies, and they offer flexibility for both employers and employees. These jobs are often filled through legal staffing agencies or job boards specializing in contract legal work.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive in a temporary legal (Temporary Law) role, and why are they important?

To succeed in a temporary legal role, you generally need a law degree, bar admission (as required by jurisdiction), and strong legal research and writing abilities. Familiarity with legal research databases like Westlaw or LexisNexis, as well as proficiency in document management systems, is often required. Attention to detail, adaptability, and strong organizational and communication skills help candidates stand out. These skills ensure temporary legal professionals can quickly integrate into new teams, produce high-quality work, and meet tight deadlines in dynamic environments.

We're growing... again.
Driskell Law is hiring an experienced Family Law Attorney to join our team. Our attorneys and staff are highly capable and fully integrated, but our caseload continues to expand. We are looking for an attorney who can step in immediately, take ownership of cases, and handle litigation with confidence.
Family law experience is required. This is not a training role.
What You'll Do
  • Manage a full family law caseload from intake through resolution
  • Appear in court for hearings, temporary orders, and trials
  • Develop and execute a case strategy with a focus on outcomes
  • Draft pleadings, motions, and legal arguments with precision
  • Conduct discovery, depositions, and settlement negotiations
  • Communicate directly with clients, opposing counsel, and the court
  • Prepare clients for hearings and manage expectations throughout the case
  • Maintain detailed case notes and ensure deadlines are met
  • Take full ownership of case progression and results

What to Expect
  • Immediate case responsibility and courtroom exposure
  • A fast-paced, high-performance environment
  • A consistent and growing caseload (no book of business required)
  • Strong internal systems and team support
  • High standards for preparation, responsiveness, and execution

What We're Looking For
  • Licensed attorney in Oklahoma (in good standing)
  • Prior family law litigation experience required
  • Proven courtroom experience and comfort handling hearings independently
  • Strong legal writing and analytical skills
  • Ability to manage multiple cases and deadlines without supervision
  • Professional, direct communicator with clients and opposing counsel
  • High level of accountability, ownership, and follow-through
  • Team-oriented with a willingness to collaborate and support the case strategy

What We Offer
  • Competitive salary (based on experience; $100,000-$150,000+)
  • Quarterly bonus structure tied to transparent performance metrics (no maximum bonus amount!)
  • 70% employer-paid health insurance (including dependents)
  • Vision and dental coverage
  • PTO + Flex Time
  • Established caseload; no requirement to bring in your own clients

Our Culture
We operate in a high-performance environment where expectations are clear, and results matter. Our attorneys are trusted to own their cases, think strategically, and execute at a high level.
We are also intentional about culture. We work hard, and we support each other in the process. That includes firm fun days, internal contests, shared wins, and a collaborative environment that keeps the team connected (and yes, a steady stream of GIFs).
If you are an experienced family law attorney who thrives in a results-driven environment and wants to be part of a firm that is growing with purpose...
