Position Title: Substitute School Health Technician
Position Status: Substitute / As Needed
Location: Fremont RE-2 School District Schools
Reports To: District Nurse and Building Principal
Position Summary
The Substitute School Health Technician provides temporary health room support in the absence of the regularly assigned health technician. This position assists in maintaining a safe and healthy school environment by supporting student health needs, providing basic first aid, administering medications as authorized, and assisting with health-related documentation under the direction of the District Nurse and building administration.
Substitutes are expected to follow district health procedures, student care plans, and all district policies related to student health and safety.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Duties may include, but are not limited to, the following:
  • Provide basic first aid and care for students who become ill or injured at school.
  • Administer medications to students in accordance with district policy and established procedures.
  • Maintain accurate documentation of student visits, medications administered, and health room activities.
  • Assist in monitoring students with health conditions as directed by the District Nurse or school administration.
  • Communicate appropriately with school staff regarding student health needs when necessary.
  • Maintain confidentiality of all student health information in accordance with FERPA and district policy.
  • Assist in maintaining a clean, organized, and properly stocked health room.
  • Follow all district safety procedures and emergency protocols.
  • Work collaboratively with teachers, staff, administration, and the District Nurse to support student health and safety.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the District Nurse or building administration.

Qualifications
Required Qualifications
  • High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • Ability to establish positive working relationships with teachers and support staff.
  • Ability to communicate effectively using oral and written language.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and professionalism in a school setting.

Certifications
  • Ability to obtain First Aid Certification, CPR Certification, and Medication Administration Certification.
  • Training may be provided by the District Nurse if needed.

Required Background Checks
Employment is contingent upon successful completion of all required background checks including:
  • Criminal background screening and fingerprinting
  • Colorado Bureau of Investigation (CBI) background check
  • Any additional screenings required by district policy

Physical Requirements
The physical demands described here are representative of those required to successfully perform the essential functions of this position:
  • Ability to stand, walk, and move throughout the school environment.
  • Ability to assist students when necessary.
  • Ability to respond quickly in situations requiring first aid or medical attention.

Terms of Employment
Substitute positions are temporary, on-call, and as-needed. Assignments are determined by district substitute needs and availability and do not guarantee regular hours, ongoing assignments, or continued employment.
Salary/Benefits
Compensation will be in accordance with the Fremont RE-2 Substitute Salary Schedule. Substitute employees are not eligible for district benefits.
