Job Summary
The Director of Gift Accounting and Fund Compliance is a member of the Division of Development and Alumni Engagement and provides leadership for gift accounting, fund administration, scholarship fund management, donor intent compliance, financial reconciliation, and advancement-related financial operations. The Director ensures philanthropic gifts are accurately recorded, donor-restricted and endowed funds are administered in accordance with donor intent, scholarship funds are effectively managed, and advancement financial operations comply with University policies, accounting standards, and established internal controls.
Essential Job Duties
  • Provide leadership for gift accounting, fund administration, donor intent compliance, scholarship fund management, and advancement financial operations.
  • Ensure the accurate and timely recording, reconciliation, and reporting of gifts, pledges, matching gifts, grants, and other philanthropic contributions.
  • Monitor donor-restricted, endowed, scholarship, and current-use funds to ensure expenditures comply with donor intent and University policies.
  • Review gift agreements and fund documentation to ensure proper administration and compliance with donor restrictions.
  • Coordinate monthly reconciliation of advancement records with University financial systems and resolve discrepancies.
  • Oversee administration of the University's scholarship management system, including scholarship fund records, award criteria, donor restrictions, and reporting.
  • Collaborate with Academic Affairs, Enrollment Management, Student Financial Services, Financial Aid, Information Technology, Finance and Business Affairs, and other campus partners.
  • Maintain records related to endowed funds and monitor annual distributions, spending activity, and fund utilization.
  • Prepare financial, operational, compliance, scholarship, and endowment reports.
  • Maintain the integrity of gift, fund, and constituent data within Raiser's Edge NXT and related systems.
  • Support internal and external audits and maintain effective internal controls.
  • Supervise assigned staff and promote a culture of accountability, accuracy, responsiveness, and customer service.
  • Identify opportunities to improve operational efficiency and business processes.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications (Education, Experience and Specialized Training)
  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, Higher Education Administration, Public Administration, or a related field required.
  • Master's degree or CPA preferred.
  • Minimum of five (5) years of progressively responsible experience in gift accounting, accounting, finance, fund administration, higher education administration, nonprofit financial management, auditing, compliance, or a related field.
  • Experience with financial management systems, donor databases, scholarship management platforms, or enterprise reporting systems.
  • Supervisory experience preferred.

  • Ability to lift up to 25 pounds
  • Ability to work occasional evenings or weekends as required.
