The Electrical Services Technician works directly with the Director of Electrical Services to support temporary electrical and lighting installations for trade shows, conventions, weddings, corporate events, and other special events.

This is a hands-on position with an opportunity to learn Expo's electrical services operation from an experienced professional. The technician will be trained in temporary power distribution, event lighting, generator power, electrical safety, and the installation and removal of electrical equipment at a variety of venues.

The ideal candidate is mechanically inclined, dependable, safety-conscious, comfortable working with tools and equipment, and interested in developing specialized skills in event electrical services.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Assist with the installation, operation, and removal of temporary electrical systems for trade shows and special events.

Learn how to safely distribute temporary power throughout exhibit halls, event spaces, tents, and outdoor venues.

Assist with power distribution for trade show booths, exhibitors, vendors, lighting, and event equipment.

Learn proper procedures for connecting temporary electrical distribution equipment to approved venue power sources under the direction of qualified personnel.

Learn how to set up and distribute power from portable and towable generators.

Install temporary event lighting, including string lights, chandeliers, decorative lighting, and other suspended lighting equipment.

Run, secure, protect, and remove electrical cable and temporary power distribution equipment.

Assist with determining electrical requirements and appropriate power distribution for events.

Inspect electrical equipment, cables, connectors, and distribution equipment for damage or unsafe conditions.

Load, unload, prepare, maintain, and organize electrical equipment and supplies.

Troubleshoot basic electrical and lighting issues under the direction of the Director of Electrical Services.

Follow Expo safety procedures, venue requirements, and applicable electrical and workplace safety standards.

Work cooperatively with Expo's operations, AV, trade show, sales, and event production teams.

Maintain a professional appearance and attitude when working with clients, venues, exhibitors, and other vendors.

Perform other event-production and electrical-services duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Prior electrical, construction, maintenance, lighting, AV, event production, or similar hands-on experience is preferred but not required.

Strong mechanical aptitude and willingness to learn electrical concepts and procedures.

Ability to safely use hand tools, power tools, ladders, lifts, and other event-production equipment after appropriate training.

Ability to follow detailed instructions and work safely around electrical equipment.

Strong attention to detail and commitment to safe work practices.

Dependable and able to work independently as skills and experience develop.

Ability to communicate effectively and work as part of a team.

Valid driver's license and acceptable driving record preferred.

Ability and willingness to obtain additional certifications or training as required by the position.

Schedule and Travel Requirements

Event production does not follow a traditional Monday-through-Friday schedule. This position requires flexibility based on event schedules and client needs.

The Electrical Services Technician must be available to work:

Days, evenings, early mornings, and overnight hours as needed.

Weekends and some holidays.

Extended shifts during larger events and trade shows.

Out-of-town events throughout California and other locations as required.

Multi-day assignments that may require overnight hotel stays.

Schedules will vary based on Expo's event calendar and business needs.

Physical Requirements

This is a physically active position. Employees must be able to:

Regularly lift, carry, push, and pull equipment and materials.

Work from ladders and approved elevated work platforms after appropriate training.

Work overhead while installing lighting, cable, and related equipment.

Stand and walk for extended periods.

Bend, kneel, climb, reach, and work in event and warehouse environments.

Work indoors and outdoors in varying temperatures and conditions.

Safely perform the essential physical functions of the position, with or without reasonable accommodation.

Training and Development

Expo will provide hands-on training under the direction of the Director of Electrical Services.
