Job description

The Chester County Intermediate Unit (CCIU) currently has a vacancy for a temporary communications specialist within our Communications, Marketing & Engagement division. This position is based out of our Educational Service Center in Downingtown, Pennsylvania. This assignment will conclude in November 2026. An extension may be possible but is not guaranteed. 
The CCIU is a dynamic educational service agency providing quality, innovative and cost-effective programs and services to enhance the lives of learners, educators and members of our communities.
The CCIU provides services to the 12 school districts in Chester County. This includes services to nearly 86,000 public and non-public school students and over 6,000 educators. The Chester County Intermediate Unit is one of 29 regional educational agencies established by law in Pennsylvania in 1971. Working between the Pennsylvania State Department of Education and the local school districts, the Intermediate Unit's mission is to provide services that can be offered most economically at the regional level.

Summary of Position:
This position reports directly to the communications manager. The successful candidate will work closely with division leadership and with administrators across the IU. The incumbent will work within messaging guidelines established by the communications team but will have a high level of autonomy in his or her personal interactions with all levels of intermediate unit staff.



Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree in communications or related field (journalism, English, or marketing) required
  • Three to five years' experience in communications/public relations field required, more than five years preferred
  • Current, within one year, Act 34, Act 151, police, child abuse & FBI Fingerprint clearances required.

Essential Responsibilities:

  • Coordinating communications support and services for internal and external customers
  • Responsible for writing press releases regarding programs, events, students, and staff of the Chester County Intermediate Unit and disseminating the information to the media
  • Responsible for social media and web site content management
  • Provide desktop publishing services to internal and external clients, including, but not limited to: producing directories, calendars, brochures, flyers, and newsletters
  • Provide communications support to schools and school districts as needed
  • Provide photography and video services to internal and external clients
  • Assists in the planning, coordinating, and conducting of CCIU events
  • Any other related duties as required by the supervisor

2026-27 SY
Project, Level 14
$68,981 - $86,227 annually *salary will be pro-rated based on length of the assignment*
