Job description

Description:

UDC is seeking a Director, International Operations & Growth to join our growing organization! This individual is responsible for developing, scaling, and operationalizing the business systems, delivery models, and organizational capabilities required to support the company's international growth strategy.

Serving as the operational counterpart to International Market Development, this role bridges market opportunity and delivery capability. While market leaders are responsible for identifying growth opportunities, partnerships, and geographic expansion, this role ensures the organization has the operating model, capacity strategy, delivery readiness, and governance necessary to execute successfully and profitably.

As international business expands, this role will serve as the primary owner of the international operating model, ensuring delivery consistency, resource optimization, and sustainable growth.

This position does not replace or duplicate the responsibilities of existing operations leaders. Instead, it provides cross-functional leadership and accountability for how international work is prioritized, resourced, delivered, and scaled across geographies. The role works closely with regional operations leaders, practice leaders, project delivery teams, and the UDC India organization to establish repeatable approaches for entering new markets and supporting multiple delivery modes.

Preferred Location: East Coast U.S. candidates are preferred to support frequent international travel and facilitate more efficient scheduling across global time zones.

What you will do

International Growth & Operating Model Leadership

  • Define and continuously evolve the company's international operating model to support growth across new geographies and markets.
  • Partner with International Sales leadership to convert growth strategies into  executable operational plans.
  • Establish scalable frameworks for market entry, delivery readiness, and operational expansion.
  • Develop repeatable approaches for launching and supporting delivery capabilities in emerging international markets.
  • Identify opportunities to leverage existing operational structures and avoid unnecessary duplication across regions.

 Business Planning & Portfolio Prioritization

  • Own the operational components of the international business plan.
  • Lead prioritization decisions across international opportunities, investments, and delivery commitments.
  • Evaluate growth plans against organizational capacity and operational readiness.
  • Facilitate  cross-functional tradeoff decisions when demand exceeds available resources.
  • Provide leadership visibility into international growth risks, constraints, and capability requirements.

Capacity & Resource Management

  • Develop and maintain international capacity and workforce forecasts.
  • Coordinate resource planning across practices, regions, delivery teams, contractors, partners, and global delivery centers.
  • Identify capability gaps required to support future market expansion.
  • Recommend staffing, recruitment, partnership, subcontractor, and investment strategies to support growth.
  • Partner closely with UDC India leadership to align global delivery capabilities with international demand.

Delivery Readiness & Execution

  • Ensure new international opportunities are supported by clear execution plans and delivery readiness assessments.
  • Establish readiness criteria for market launches, project mobilization, and resource deployment.
  • Monitor international operational performance, utilization, capacity, and profitability.
  • Identify and address systemic execution challenges impacting growth and scalability.
  • Partner with existing operations leaders to improve consistency across international delivery activities.

Delivery Model Governance

  • Own the framework for determining how international work is delivered.
  • Evaluate and recommend the optimal mix of local, regional, partner, contractor, and global delivery center resources.
  • Establish decision criteria for delivery model selection based on customer expectations, cost, risk, scalability, and profitability.
  • Standardize delivery model governance across international markets.
  • Continuously assess and improve international delivery effectiveness and operating efficiency.

Market Development & Growth Enablement

  • Collaborate with International Sales leadership on expansion strategies and market-entry decisions.
  • Assess operational implications associated with entering new countries, regions, and service offerings.
  • Support strategic pursuits and major international opportunities.
  • Participate in joint marketing and growth planning decisions to ensure operational feasibility and scalability.
  • Provide recommendations on where and how the organization should invest to support future international growth.

What we look for from you

  • 8+ years of experience in operations leadership, professional services management, portfolio management, or business operations.
  • Demonstrated success building scalable operating models in growth-oriented organizations.
  • Experience managing cross-functional initiatives across multiple geographies and organizational boundaries.
  • Strong capability in resource planning, capacity management, and portfolio prioritization.
  • Experience with global delivery organizations, offshore teams, or distributed delivery models.
  • Strong financial and commercial acumen.
  • Exceptional ability to influence without direct authority and align diverse stakeholders around shared objectives.

What Success looks like

  • Successful expansion into new international markets
  • Clear and scalable international operating model
  • Improved delivery readiness for new opportunities
  • Effective utilization of global resources, including UDC India
  • Increased consistency across international delivery approaches
  • Resource capacity aligned with growth objectives
  • Profitability and operational performance of international business
  • Reduced organizational friction between market development and delivery execution

UDC’s Offerings

  • The opportunity to work for a Platinum Esri Partner at the forefront of digital transformation for utilities globally.
  • Exposure to a wide range of clients, technologies, and projects across Europe and internationally.
  • A collaborative, project-based culture that values technical credibility alongside strong client relationships.

Compensation range: $150,000-$180,000/annually. The compensation that is offered to a successful candidate will depend on the candidate’s skills, qualifications, experience, and location.
