What are Temporary CDL Drivers?

Temporary CDL Drivers are commercial drivers who are hired on a short-term basis to operate vehicles that require a Commercial Driver's License (CDL), such as trucks, buses, or other large vehicles. These drivers may be employed to fill in for permanent staff, meet seasonal demand, or assist with special projects. A temporary CDL driver works for a company as a substitute driver, a contractor, or a freelancer, without a permanent position. As a temporary CDL driver, your job duties depend on the needs of each client and the type of CDL license you hold. You may operate small trucks and make local deliveries, or you may drive large cargo loads longer distances that require you to stay overnight before returning home. Temporary CDL drivers may work a particular route for a set amount of time, or you may receive assignments on an on-call basis.
