Job description

George Fox University's Athletic Department is seeking a determined multi-tasker to join our team as a Temporary Assistant Athletics Coach.


About the Job:

The Temporary Assistant Athletics Coach will support the head coach in leading, developing, and mentoring student-athletes, striving for competitive excellence across intercollegiate sports. This role assists in fostering a comprehensive program that promotes athletic success, personal and spiritual growth, and academic achievement for all team members.


Job responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Providing coaching and leadership to student-athletes or designated position groups through effective meetings, performance analysis, strategy review, training sessions, practices, competitions, academic support, and team-building activities.
  • Integrating faith-based principles into coaching and mentoring student-athletes in their personal, academic, and spiritual growth, in alignment with the institution's Christian mission.
  • Articulating the mission of the George Fox University athletic program in ways that align with the "Be Known" vision of the University.
  • Modeling a highly relational Christian witness to the university's students and employees. By actions, words, and lifestyle, be a Christian role model to students, whether through casual contact or in a formal supervisory role.
  • Communicating effectively and courteously with others, including employees, students, and the public, in a spirit of teamwork, respect and customer service.

  • Demonstrated experience working cross culturally with respect, appreciation and humility.

We're looking for candidates who have:

  • A Bachelor's Degree or some college experience.
  • The ability to communicate effectively in English, orally and in writing, including on telephone, and to understand and follow instructions.
  • Two years of high school, college, club or professional coaching and/ or playing experience at the college level.
  • A clean driving record along with the ability to provide proof of a valid driver's license and pass the University Driver Certification.
  • The ability to work weekends, evenings, and travel.
  • The ability to manage multiple tasks and actively participate in practices.
  • Legal authorization to work in the United States. This position does not offer visa sponsorship; therefore, only applicants who do not require sponsorship for employment visas, now or at any point in the future, should apply.
  • A commitment to the University's Theology of Racial and Ethnic Diversity.

Job information:

  • Schedule: Work period to be determined by sport and season
  • Duration: This is a temporary position and will conclude at the end of the season
  • Primary Work Location: Newberg Campus
    • Local and national travel may be required.
  • Working Conditions: Physical requirements could include lifting more than 25 pounds and performing any activities such as balancing, bending/stooping, climbing stairs, crawling, crouching, climbing ladders, kneeling, repetitive motion or reaching above shoulder level.
