Job description

Temporary Apparel Designer
Duration: 2-3 Months
Location: New York City | On-Site
Department: Design
About the Role
We are seeking a talented and detail-oriented Temporary Apparel Designer to join our Design team for a 2-3 month assignment. This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced designer with a strong background in contemporary ready-to-wear and dresses to make an immediate impact and help support the team through a critical product development period.
The primary focus of this role will be creating and maintaining Excel-based tech packs, with additional support across technical design and product development as needed. The ideal candidate has a strong understanding of garment construction, can clearly communicate design intent through technical specifications and callouts, and is comfortable working in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment.
Key Responsibilities
  • Create, update, and maintain detailed Excel tech packs for apparel styles
  • Develop clear and accurate technical specifications, measurements, and garment construction callouts
  • Sketch accurate garment flats using Adobe Illustrator
  • Occasionally update and maintain seasonal linesheets
  • Partner with the Design team to ensure technical details and design intent are accurately communicated to vendors
  • Review and update tech packs based on samples, comments, and development changes
  • Support the Design team with additional product development needs as deadlines require
  • Manage multiple styles and deadlines while maintaining accuracy and attention to detail
  • Help troubleshoot technical and construction-related questions throughout the development process

What You Bring
  • 5-7 years of apparel design experience, preferably within the contemporary RTW market
  • Experience designing dresses and women's ready-to-wear
  • Bachelor of Fine Arts (BFA) in Fashion Design or related field preferred
  • Strong proficiency in Excel-based tech packs
  • Advanced proficiency in Adobe Illustrator
  • Ability to create clean, accurate technical flats
  • Strong understanding of garment construction, fit, fabrication, and technical specifications
  • Ability to accurately spec garments and provide detailed construction callouts
  • Excellent attention to detail and organizational skills
  • Ability to work independently while collaborating closely with a Design team
  • Comfortable working in a fast-paced environment with tight deadlines
  • Proactive, solutions-oriented approach with the ability to quickly adapt to changing priorities

The Opportunity
This is a great opportunity for an experienced Apparel Designer who enjoys the technical and product-development side of design and can step in quickly to support a talented team. If you have strong tech pack expertise, a solid understanding of garment construction, and experience in contemporary RTW, we'd love to hear from you.
The expected base salary for this position ranges from $40-55/hour. Ranges are based on various factors such as relevant skillset, training, years of experience related to the current job description, education, and our organizational structure.
