Summary of Functions: Serves as a servant leader and Agile coach for one or more Scrum or Kanban teams. Facilitates effective Agile events, removes impediments, strengthens team collaboration and accountability, and supports continuous improvement. Partners with Product Owners, Business Analysts, developers, quality assurance staff, and leadership to improve team maturity, delivery predictability, velocity, throughput, and flow. The role does not own product priorities, assign work to team members, manage project budgets, or direct vendor delivery.
Management Scope: No direct supervisory responsibility. Provides coaching, facilitation, and guidance to Agile team members and may mentor junior Scrum Masters.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Facilitates Sprint Planning, Daily Scrum, Backlog Refinement, Sprint Review, Sprint Retrospective, and other team working sessions.
Coaches teams on Scrum, Kanban, Lean, servant leadership, self-management, accountability, and continuous improvement.
Identifies, tracks, and removes team impediments and escalates organizational blockers when team-level resolution is not possible.
Assesses team maturity and develops practical improvement plans with measurable actions and follow-through.
Uses Agile metrics, including velocity, throughput, cycle time, lead time, work in progress, predictability, and carryover, to help teams improve performance.
Partners with Product Owners to improve backlog readiness, Sprint Goal clarity, prioritization transparency, and stakeholder participation.
Protects teams from unnecessary interruptions, unplanned scope changes, conflicting direction, and ineffective working practices.
Facilitates resolution of team conflict and promotes psychological safety, collaboration, transparency, and shared ownership.
Coordinates cross-team dependencies and works with other Scrum Masters, Product Owners, and delivery partners to resolve delivery constraints.
Supports adoption of consistent Agile practices, definitions of ready and done, working agreements, and team-level governance standards.
Maintains accurate team delivery information in Jira or other Agile tools and communicates trends, risks, and improvement needs to leadership.
Mentors junior Scrum Masters and contributes to Agile communities of practice, playbooks, templates, and organizational learning.
Supports organizational Agile transformation activities when they directly improve team effectiveness and delivery outcomes.
Performs other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications:
Education and experience equivalent to a Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in Computer Science, Information Systems, Business Administration, or a related field. Minimum five (5) years of experience serving as a Scrum Master in complex IT environments, including experience supporting multiple Scrum or Kanban teams. Demonstrated experience coaching teams, removing impediments, improving team maturity, facilitating Agile events, and using delivery metrics to improve predictability and flow. Certified ScrumMaster (CSM), Professional Scrum Master (PSM), or equivalent certification required. Advanced Scrum, Kanban, SAFe, or Agile coaching certification is preferred. Project Management Professional (PMP) certification is not required.
Special Requirements/Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
  • Advanced knowledge of Scrum, Kanban, Lean, Agile principles, servant leadership, team dynamics, and continuous improvement.
  • Demonstrated ability to facilitate productive Agile events and help teams establish clear goals, working agreements, and accountability.
  • Skill in identifying and removing impediments without taking ownership of Product Owner, manager, or team member responsibilities.
  • Ability to coach teams toward self-management, stronger collaboration, sustainable delivery, and improved maturity.
  • Deep understanding of Agile metrics and the appropriate use of velocity, throughput, cycle time, lead time, work in progress, predictability, and quality measures.
  • Proficiency with Jira, Confluence, Azure DevOps, dashboards, and Agile reporting tools.
  • Strong facilitation, conflict resolution, coaching, listening, communication, and stakeholder engagement skills.
  • Ability to partner effectively with Product Owners, Business Analysts, developers, quality assurance staff, architects, and leadership.
  • Ability to recognize and address anti-patterns, excessive work in progress, unstable Sprint commitments, recurring carryover, and ineffective team practices.
  • Ability to support multiple teams while maintaining focus on team health, delivery outcomes, and continuous improvement.
  • Must possess a valid Texas Driver's License and maintain a good driving record in accordance with Dallas County requirements.
