Job Description / Desired Qualifications:

JOB SUMMARY:

  • We are looking for an experienced Scrum Master, who is skilled in Agile delivery leveraging Scrum, Kanban, and other Agile practices. Scrum Masters in our organization are servant leaders who can effectively collaborate, facilitate, and influence in a matrixed team environment.
  • A successful Scrum Master must adeptly navigate complex organizations and be flexible in working with teams that have various levels of Agile maturity.
  • The Scrum Master will work with an Agile Coach and the Agile Delivery Enablement Lead to provide direction towards maturing and optimizing Agile execution within teams.
  • This role will interact closely with Technology and Business stakeholders to educate and ensure business outcomes are achieved.

 

Role Summary

  • The Scrum Master is a servant leader, delivery-focused Agile coach responsible for helping teams consistently deliver value. This role emphasizes coaching, execution, and collaboration, ensuring Agile teams are effective, predictable, and aligned with delivery commitments.
  • Strong Jira expertise is essential to enable transparency, planning, and delivery tracking.


MAJOR JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Partner with Product Owner to provide work direction to one or more Agile teams, including backlog management and grooming
  • Teach the Scrum framework to Technology and Business teams and tailor to the organization as needed
  • Organize and facilitate sprint planning sessions, daily stand-up meetings, sprint reviews, retrospectives, and other Scrum-related meetings
  • Track and communicate sprint/release progress via information radiators and team metrics
  • Remove and/or escalate team roadblocks
  • Coordinate release schedules, which may involve dependencies across other Agile and Waterfall teams
  • Guide Agile teams to leverage an Agile mindset and fine tune frameworks to increase maturity level
  • Foster a culture of continuous improvement within teams
  • Partner closely with Project Managers to align sprint execution with delivery milestones, dependencies, and commitments.
  • Support delivery planning, forecasting, and risk identification while reinforcing Agile principles.
  • Provide clear visibility into progress, risks, and impediments using Jira dashboards and delivery metrics.
  • Help teams balance flow, quality, and predictability to meet delivery goals.


REQUIRED SKILLS:

  • Bachelor’s degree in related field
  • 7+ years of overall experience in technology delivery
  • 5+ years in a Scrum Master role, managing multiple teams
  • Scrum Master certification (CSM, PSM, PMI-ACP, SAFe, etc.)
  • Superior communication skills (verbal, written, and presentation)
  • Agile mindset with expert knowledge of Agile practices (Scrum ceremonies, information radiators, continuous improvement techniques, Kanban, XP, etc.)
  • Knowledge of Scrum success patterns, common challenges, and techniques to course correct when issues arise
  • Flexibility to work with Scrum teams in a variety of different contexts, team sizes, organizations, cultures, co-located vs. distributed, etc.
  • Experience with Software Development Life Cycle and Release Management
  • Demonstrated understanding of Project Management concepts, including the ability to manage budgets, create resource plans and forecasts, prepare schedules, identify risks, and prepare mitigation plans
  • Experience working on mixed methodology program (Scrum interfacing with Waterfall from a dependency perspective)
  • Experience influencing and managing project teams without formal direct reporting relationships
  • Experience building relationships with senior leaders, team members, and customers to execute on a common vision and strategy
  • Ability to be a champion for continuous improvement within Technology and Business teams
  • Experience with managing backlogs and sprints via an Agile Lifecycle Management tool (JIRA, VersionOne, Rally, etc.)
  • High-level of proficiency in Microsoft Office products, particularly Excel, PowerPoint, Word, Visio, Project, and SharePoint


PREFERED SKILLS:

  • Project Management Professional (PMP) certification
  • Experience in scaled Agile programs (SAFe, etc.)
  • Working knowledge of technical engineering best practices (Test Driven Development, Continuous Integration/Continuous Delivery, DevOps, etc.)
  • Working knowledge of best practices in Organization Change Management
  • Previous experience in Utility industry

 

Coaching & Team Enablement

  • Coach teams in self‐management, accountability, and continuous improvement.
  • Guide Product Owners, Project Managers, and stakeholders on Agile practices that support reliable delivery.
  • Foster a culture of ownership, collaboration, and outcome‐focused execution.

 

Scrum Facilitation

  • Facilitate effective Scrum events that drive planning clarity, execution alignment, and inspect‐and‐adapt learning.
  • Lead retrospectives that result in measurable delivery and process improvements.
  • Identify and help remove delivery‐impacting impediments at both team and organizational levels.

 

Jira Ownership & Metrics

  • Serve as the Jira expert, ensuring boards, workflows, and backlogs support delivery tracking and transparency.
  • Coach teams on backlog readiness, sprint execution, and dependency visibility in Jira.
  • Use metrics to support delivery conversations and continuous improvement, not performance scoring.

 

Qualifications

  • Experience as a Scrum Master or Agile Team Coach with a strong delivery mindset.
  • Demonstrated ability to partner effectively with Project Managers.
  • Strong understanding of Scrum and Agile delivery practices.
  • Hands‐on Jira expertise, including boards, workflows, and reporting.
