Description
University of Hawai'i, Kapi'olani Community College, Arts & Humanities Department is seeking applications for the Art (New Media Arts) lecturer position. Salary: Minimum $2,053 per credit hour; subject to lecturer placement.
Schedule: Part Time
Temporary/Permanent: Temporary

Other Conditions: For placement into the lecturer pool beginning Fall 2026. Subject to availability of funds and actual staffing requirements.
Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Teach courses in the assigned subject area;
  • Prepare course syllabus and reports related to teaching and student progress;
  • Assess student learning in terms of course competencies and program learning outcomes;
  • Submit self-assessment reports based on student and peer evaluations;
  • Work under the general supervision of the discipline coordinator/division chairperson in integrating teaching efforts with other instructors in the discipline area;
  • Maintain one office hour per week for each class taught (20 minutes per credit per week);
  • Classes may be offered online, evenings, and/or weekends
  • Other duties as assigned

Minimum Qualifications:
  1. Master's degree in Fine Arts in Studio Art with the specialization in new media art or a related area of study (i.e., design, animation, digital art, digital media, multi-media, computer graphics, film, etc.) AND 1 year related industry experience; OR,
  2. Any Master's degree with coursework in new media art or a related area of study AND 3 years related industry experience; OR,
  3. Any Bachelor's degree with coursework in new media art or a related area of study AND 5 years related industry experience; OR,
  4. Any Associate degree with coursework in new media art or a related area of study AND 7 years related industry experience.

If qualified applicants are not available, those not meeting minimum qualifications may be considered.
Desirable Qualifications:
  1. Teaching experience at the community college level
  2. Demonstrated ability to work with community college students
  3. Work experience related to course to be taught
  4. Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively and work cooperatively
  5. Familiarity with competency and outcomes based instruction
  6. Professional experience in 2D/3D animation, motion graphics, or game development
